NFL 2K5 Crowned Operation Sports Best Sports Game

Starting in March, Operation Sports' Best Sports Game Tournament started with 64 legendary sports video games. After tons of head-to-head matches, thousands of votes, and a touch of controversy, NFL 2K5 has come out victorious - beating College Hoops 2k8 95-51.

NFL 2K5's road to glory started by beating NHL '95. Other victories over Joe Montana II: Sports Talk Football, Blades of Steel, Mike Tyson's Punchout and Baseball Stars got the celebrated football game to the final match.

Not a surprise, I think it's well deserved. Now if this tournament could somehow aid in getting the NFL to reassess their current licensing agreement I'd be a happy man. boy NFL 2k10 sounds good to me, the possible prospect of NFL 2k15...not so much

It's a great game, however the nfl license is done, never to come back ever. For one, internet polls are done by a small minority of fans. Then there's the whole issue of EA eventually buying Take Two.

ugh, that made me shudder. Although the tone of my original post might be mistaken for naivete I'm afraid I agree with you on this point, for the sake of gamers worldwide though, I hope we're both wrong!

Not surprising at all. I guess there weren't enough of us old-timers to get Tecmo Super Bowl the crown.

dunno - makes you wonder what APF would have been like if they just took NFL 2k5, updated the graphics, created fictional teams and put the legends on those teams.

APF with NFL 2k5's franchise mode might have been a juggernaut.

It baffled me why they didnt do that.

Change NFL to APF
Change ESPN to 2K Sports Network.
Replace Berman,Kiper, Wingo and Suzy with fictional people if you couldn't sign them.
Change SportsCenter to 2k Sports Tonight.
Keep the teams in the right cities, just change the mascot and uniform colors.
Keep the combine and the draft.
Fix some of the bugs in franchise mode.
Add the gameplay enhancements of APF and better graphics and call it day.

NFL 2k5 is definitely worthy. Still play it to this day ... and more importantly, it still amazes me. Obviously, it doesn't have everything down and it's not a perfect game (no game is, as cliche as it sounds), but it was a benchmark in its genre of gaming and deserving (as well as a couple other games) of being the #1 game.

I been gaming since the 2600 and i voted for NFL2k5. I am as old as it gets as far as gaming goes. Hell my dad used to have one of them old old pong games. I still think its in my moms garage. lol
