I suppose the rabid fans kinda turn me off of that game as well. The way some people talk it sounds like if you put the game in your pants it does "magic"...

Congrats on winning though!
Agreed. While 2k5 is my favorite football game of all-time, since it's "death" people seem to forget some of it's shortfalls and problems. It's been raised to the level of being the perfect game in a lot of people's minds, when it was clearly not such.

The idea it got sympathy votes is dead on.

I agree that it's "death" elevated it in people's minds, but I also think it's held in such a high regard because there hasn't been a football game that has matched it. Especially on the new consoles. If EA were to put out an amazing football game(College or Professional), I think we'd see less of the 2k5 love fest.

I don't. I don't think it matters how good of a game EA comes out with. There's a certain element out there that will never let it go.

I don't think the element is as strong as you think. If EA gives out less ammo to fight with the soldiers will fall back, lol.

or maybe they just agree with you about it being their favorite football title of all time so they voted for it. while i agree some cats are just fanatical (on all sides) i just havent read all these posts where people are claiming 2K5 was flawless..........

but anyhow im one that agrees with you, its my favorite football game off all time also.

There will always be the shadow element. I hear the 2k Defense Force is actually behind gas prices. Be careful, you never know where there'll hit next. Loose lips sink ships.

Re: NFL 2K5 Crowned Operation Sports Best Sports Game

I hear the term overrated here. What does that mean in this respect? And what aspects of the game are overrated? I understand the claims of a certain constituency on this board that may frustrate people with respect to 2k5. Secondly, the game had its fair share of issues. Fair enough. But it would seem to me that many of the elements of 2k5 is what people on this board are now asking for in Next Gen Madden and NCAA games - such as add on tackling, combo/double team blocking, players with individual personalities, ect.

If this is the case, I would say that the game is not overrated at all, but the game presented something to us that we had yet to see and things that now we wish were standards in all football games - and in that respect perhaps it is under-appreciated for what it accomplished. If these things are important to us then I doubt overrated is an adequate description of the game. But I will concede, however, that 2k5 did not make the mark that it could have made.

Let me say this last thing. If EA had what VC had in their game, add on tackling, combo/double team blocking, line stunts that you can mix with blitzes ect, do you think they would have allowed that stuff to go unnoticed? I'm afraid not. Everyone would have known about it and would have known why it matters. As I said in another thread, Sega and Take Two did Visual Concepts an injustice. Overrated? In and of itself the game is simply a visual presentation that set a pretty high bar with respect to certain aspects of football games: presentation, tackling - which IMO is now dated, Oline/Dline interaction, Defensive Play Calling, ect.

Re: NFL 2K5 Crowned Operation Sports Best Sports Game

The only thing I can even concede to Madden right now is the graphics it has on the 360 versions. 2K5 is still the best in everything else to this day.

2K5 won because its the best sports videogame to date. No other sports videogame represents its sport better.
