Championship: NFL 2k5 vs. College Hoops 2k8

Personally, these 2 games are in my top 10. I went with Choops becuase I have never enjoyed playing a game for so long without it being boring. I really enjoyed the 2kshare feature brought with it, which allowed me to play legacy with friends in different states.

Some may say 2k's Choops < NBA , but thats just a personal opinion and my opinion sways the other way. I played NBA for about 3 weeks before I devoted all my b-ball gaming time to choops. Recruiting, closed legacy, college atmosphere, playing 30 games in a season, tourny-time are all reasons why I enjoyed it more.

You are right that 2k5 is only remembered as well as it is today because it was the last one made but from the release date of that game I have loved it. If 2k6, 2k7 etc. would have came out I would have moved on but since it was the last one I have played it for the past 4 years and there aren't many other sports games out there that have ever been as good as 2k5. I am a 2k fanboy but that is because of Ea and the nfl exclusive license. For $20 2k5 was the best sports gaming purchase in my life.

i have played almost every game in this tournament, and i cannot say that there is any other game that i have enjoyed playing more than espn nfl 2k5. even several months/years later, i could still pop in the disc, play a quick game, and have a blast. Not only was the game's gameplay and presentation top-notch, but there was so much depth to the rest of the game. Overall, I had more fun playing 2k5 than i had playing any other game, and thats really all that matters. videogames are for FUN. thats why espn nfl 2k5 got my vote.

a popularity contest? no kidding... what else makes it THE BEST???????????? you can surely make the argument that a game that is pure fluff and crap could win this, but not with the audience we have here. OS is full of fans that love and have a passion for sports games. we like quality games and we're hardcore about them. all that being said, when you have 2 games battling each other, yes, the game you like better is going to be the game you vote for. the game with more replay value, that keeps you playing over and over is the game that SHOULD get the vote because it has done exactly what the programmers wanted -- kept you playing it.

what are we supposed to do, average every little category and see exactly which games takes the cake by some mathematical formula? games aren't considered "the best" by any other measure than play time, especially not for this crowd. and NFL2K5.... come on now.... that was a special sports game. how many SPORTS GAMES, if you look around in the past 20 years of gaming, can you really say have a following where you can go to a forum site anywhere, and they STILL have a following? MVP 2005 might still have a small following and rival NFL2K5. other than that, sports games have a very small life, so if it's a game that years later is still discussed, is still in systems, even when there's several new next-gen systems out, that truly is a game that is great.

I don't quite follow this logic. People voted for it on its own merits...not because there was no follow up version.

How can you make an argument that follow on versions would have been as good or better and use that to discount NFL2K5? That's like saying the only reason people loved the Beatle songs in the 1960's is because they broke up in 1970 and there are no 1970's songs to compare them to!

The game is great on its own...regardless of pseudo follow ups (AllPro Football) or not.

Depends on the development team. I would still play NHL 2K3 over NHL 2K8 offline today if I would take the time to update the rosters. Sure it looks dated, but the AI compared to what 2K8 does (or does not bring) is still far and above it.

All this "what if?" logic just doesn't hold water.
