Why cant sports games take after the COD series

Having another company help out and them switching the game releases up every other year?

That way they get a 2 year cycle to work on their game

For example VC could've kept Kush games and switched off the NBA series each year so that not only does it stay fresh but they have ample time to work on the kinks and new additions.

At this point I dont care what anyone says, both basketball games have plenty to be shamed about, and while they are both fun in certain aspects its getting old.

This is not a bash fest or a greatest ever post because to be honest nex gen has been a disaster IMO. Higher costs and they have yet to deliver that same full experience we got on the old gen.

Maybe it is tough to do things in a short span but the fans deserve more. This I think is one solution and we already see a company take on this kind of model.

What do you think? What kind of suggestion would you make to sports games better for the fans.. and please dont start this into a comparison, vs thread a bashfest or anything as such.

Also I dont mean cater to the way out, over high expectant fans that just arent realistic.

I think this is something we should be talking about...

I don't think VC can afford making money every 2 years. As for EA, I think they prefer releaseing a ________ (you tell me) game every year, rather than taking a year off.

2k is definitely having money problems. I think that limits themselves to making the graphics and other things better.

23 i wouldn't be opposed to the bi-annual release. As i have stated in past post about the subject, give me DLC every 3-6 months during the non release year, keep the rosters updated, and i would be set. That way, the developer has ample time to work out the kinks before they release their product. I would gladly pay $10-20 dollars for DLC if they went that route. I guarantee that would cut down on games needing 2 or so patches just to get the game to play right. Thats probably wishful thinking though.

Good post. I think both devs could use the extra time to iron out existing issues that have been around for awhile(Re: NBA). Unfortunately the hoop games race is so tight imo, neither company can afford to take a year off while the other has a whole year on it's own in the market to strengthen it's brand. Both companies would have to agree on a year off in order for that to happen regarding the NBA titles imo. Same with hockey and soccer.

The football, baseball titles have exclusives so it seems like they could actually do it but these companies probably count on that yearly income coming in.

For it happen you need somebody to flinch first. I dont see anybody doing that anytime soon. There is too much at stake. Plus, COD isn't really competing against anything other then itself. I have no idea but these companies may be mandated to release a game annually by the respective leagues.

Re: Why cant sports games take after the COD series

Good thread.

I think if you sell 1-2 million copies a year you don't have to improve anything.

Why do you think we have hair pulling frustrations that exist year after year and never get fixed? The overall game logic for both games is probably the biggest re-curring frustration each year. It seems they spend little time on A.I. and contextual command improvements than they do on pretty animations or presentation.

They need more time to make the sports game great but they have no reason to take that time.

So what we need to hope for is strides like that which Live 10 made this year in making movement almost life like realistic and tendencies as well.

When I play 2K I have unrealistic %'s and tendencies make no sense. Smoove posted a video where ben wallace was at top of the key calling for a pick and roll then popped a 18 foot jumpshot.

Live 10 players behave the closest to real life any game has seen and it's the first NBA game where I use real NBA knowledge to dictate my play instead of gamer instinct.

But Live does more bad than it does good and 2K in my opinion is just the same but unlike Live they don't seem to fix their problems or innovate gameplay.

In sum, I think we will age quite a bit before we get to play a frustration proof sports game...

I have been thinking the same thing.

They should take after the COD series, but it will never happen. Too much money to be made every year. Money will always kill quality.

Def way to much money invested in this to make it work. Sometime it isn't about what we want, it's more on how much they make.
