South Carolina State Student Courier, Sports Edition

The Bulldogs hold off Hampton, 83-76.

"It looked like they would blow us out early, being down 15 points its a hard thing to swallow but we battled back as a team and we took over the lead and pulled away in the second half. I think this was a game of character and we really rallied together to show we work well as a team." Senior Derrick Davis had to say about his teams winning effort. The Bulldogs struggled most of the game to find a rhythm, the Pirates pressed them hard and early and it made it difficult to push the ball uptempo, and it wore down the Boys in Red. It took a stellar effort from Carrio Bennett and Everett Spencer to bring back SCST to take the lead with only 3 minutes left in the game when Hampton had to pull all their starters due to fatigue. "I think I hit all 4 three pointers late, I will have to check the stat sheet but it felt so good out there. We were all clicking and working together and my shots just seemed to come easy." Bennett finished with 14 points and was 4-4 from three.

Game Stats

South Carolina State Student Courier, Sports Edition

The Bulldogs beat conference rival Howard 96-71.

"Pretty much a beat down, they kept it close early but we ran away. I think my shooting was on tonight because I felt like I couldn't miss at all" a cocky Everett Spencer told the Courier after beating Howard at home. The Bulldogs shot a season high 53% for the game and made it a rough night on the glass for the Bison as SCST out rebounded them 46-21. Another bit advantage for SCST was the defensive pressure, the boys really turned up the heat in the second half and were able to get a lot of fast break points off steals. "We really run this conference this year, I mean we have struggles against some of the bigger name teams but against a weak conference we will really run the table, I know we can."

Game Stats

Bulldogs

Burton 9 points, 5 assist, 4 rebounds, 3 steals
Bennett 18 points, 2 assist
Spencer 41 points, 3 rebounds
Carter 2 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assist, 2 steals, 1 block

South Carolina State Student Courier, Sports Edition

The Bulldogs roll again crushing Norfolk State 98-62.

"We the best, we can't be stopped. They should just give up" junior Everett Spencer told a crowd of reporters. "We just too good for this conference. They see me walk in the building and they get scared." The Bulldogs were electric in this game shooting 40% from the field and being almost perfect from 3 point land with 14-18. The only blimish was when Jason Flagler fouled out of the game with 5 minutes to go. "We had our second unit in and for some reason Jason could not get a call to go his way so I had to bring Everett back in and he light up the scoreboard with 2 more threes." SCST looked to be on a roll as they have no trailed in their past 3 conference game and are scoring 80+ points a game. Junior Everet Spencer is scoring 37 points per game in conference play and is looking to be leading mid major player of the year.

Game Stats

Bulldogs

Burton 13 points, 8 assist, 4 rebounds
Bennett 18 points, 2 assist, 2 rebounds, 1 steal
Spencer 40 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 assist, 1 steal

Cobb 7 points, 7 rebounds

Bench:

Carn 2 points, 3 rebounds

Monroe 3 points, 2 rebounds

SCST is now 14-6 (5-0) and will take on NC A&T 5-9 (4-2).

He has no pro buzz because he is only a 70 ovr and has no potential. So he will stay but if he was a freshman he would be looking at a good change to make the league.

Re: Rob Stone, the next big thing.

South Carolina State Student Courier, Sports Edition

The Bulldogs win big against NC A&T, 91-75.

"Its unfair sometimes, you know how I can just score at will game in and game out. It was just me and Carrio out there dropping threes and slamming dunks in their faces all game long. Who can stop us? Who has stopped us? I feel bad for Bethune-Cookman, we're going to run them into the ground just like the rest of the MEAC." Everett Spencer shows his true feelings for the win against NC A&T where the he and Carrio Bennett were the only double digit scorers with 41 and 24 points respectively. Coach Stone had a lot to say about the team "We played our ball, we pushed the tempo and we drove the lanes and finished at the basket just like we practice. We had this team all night long, especially since we really limited our turnovers. We play well and we win, its simple."

Game Stats

Bulldogs

Burton 9 points, 2 assist
Bennett 24 points, 3 assist, 2 steals, 2 rebounds
Spencer 41 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist
Carter 2 points, 9 rebounds
Cobb 5 points, 3 rebounds

Bench:

Carn 7 points, 8 rebounds
Flagler 1 foul
Miller-Williams 1 rebound, 1 block
Davis 3 points, 8 assist

Aggies

Ewing 23 points, 7 rebounds
Rush 14 points
Jones 20 points, 3 rebounds
Willis 4 points, 6 rebounds, 2 blocks
Coleman 4 points, 12 rebounds

Bench:

Webster 2 points
Hernandez 6 points, 1 assist
Shepherd 2 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist

Re: Rob Stone, the next big thing.

South Carolina State Student Courier, Sports Edition

The Bulldogs win another conference game rolling against Bethune-Cookman, 79-63.

"We shot the ball well, we pushed the tempo but we couldn't keep from turning the ball over. We really out rebounded them by a big margin and we held down the offensive post. WE struggled from behind the arc, mainly Everett; but when we pushed the ball to the hole they could not stop us. We had the attack and we used it to our full advantage. I really like our guard play and how we can get down and set up and throw off most defenses. Our post play will come around but it still leaves something to be desired."

Game Stats

Bulldogs

Burton 11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assist
Bennett 16 points, 4 rebounds
Spencer 31 points, 4 rebounds
Carter 2 points, 6 rebounds
Cobb 2 points, 3 rebounds

Bench

Carn 6 points, 8 rebounds
Flagler 2 rebounds
Miller-Williams 2 rebounds
Davis 11 points, 8 assist

Cougars

Carrier 24 points, 2 assist
Pettus 6 points, 2 assist, 2 rebounds, 1 steal
Hudson 15 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assist, 4 steals
Creppy 2 points, 5 rebounds
Anderson 2 points, 6 rebounds

Bench:
Barber 6 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assist, 2 steals
Cooks 2 points, 3 rebounds
Holmes 2 points, 1 assist

SCST is now 16-6 (8-0) and will take on Florida A&M 9-9 (6-2).

Thanks man, I'm just hoping that once I hit the top half of the conference these wins keep rolling.

January Wrap up

The Bulldogs did not lose a game in the month of January, and for the first time in school history start conference play 11-0. Everett Spencer averaged 37.6 points in the month of January and as it gets colder outside the shooting heats up on the inside for the Bulldogs. Carrio Bennett and Jesse Burton both have been hot from the floor as a good three guard offense that has yet to be slowed down by an MEAC opponents. February should be a fun and interesting month for SCST fans the Bulldogs will re-face the top half of the MEAC conference and will be looking to take the top seed in March.
