Re: Taking the Big East By [Red] Storm - CH2k9

We are now six days away from the early signing period and the St. John's faithful have their fingers crossed that they can snag their top three prospects now and move on to recruiting some juniors. Norm Roberts will now speak on his top-three targets:

Sherman Richards
  • Position - SG
  • Height - 6'3"
  • Weight - 188 lbs.
"Sherman is not only a great player, but he's a great, smart kid. Someone we would love to have and build our program around. He may be a bit undersized, but he's got the court vision and ball handling skills to play the point for us if we needed. He's got a nice mid-range jumper, but we need to work on his three ball."

Poncho Nardi
  • Position - SG
  • Height - 6'1"
  • Weight - 173 lbs.
"If we thought Sherman [Richards] was a bit undersized, Nardi must be a midget. He played the off-guard in high school, but he'll have to move to point for us. He's got the skills (averaged 5.8 assists in AAU) and can shoot the rock. Should be a great addition to our team."

Devin Christian
  • Position - C
  • Height - 7'1"
  • Weight - 236 lbs.
"Devin will be a work in progress, but he would give us the size we desperately need in the paint. Though he's not the most athletic kid, he can rebound with the best of them with his shear size. We'd like to see him come in and block some shots right away, but we'll have to have him work with our big man coach first."

You're doing a pretty good job of getting the easy win's. Better rack up before the BE conference starts.

Thanks. The first two games (St. Francis & Sacred Heart) were played on crazy hard sliders. The Sacred Heart loss was tough to swallow. I am now using TarHeelFan's sliders and they play real well. This win against Miami was a good measuring stick, but the Big East paly will be brutal.

Re: Taking the Big East By [Red] Storm - CH2k9

First Day of Early Recruiting Period, Devin Christian signs...
Delaware steals 7'1" center from St. John's

The first day of the early recruiting period has come and gone, and so has the biggest recruit (literally) on St. John's target list. The 7'1" center Devin Christian, from Vineland, NJ, signs with the University of Delaware.

"Christian definitely has some big-school size and skills, but I could tell when I sat down to visit him that he, personally, may have been better suited for more of a low-key school such as Delaware. The Blue Hens have not only got themselves a big man to build their program around, but a great kid that will represent the program with class and pride." - Coach Roberts

As for the Red Storm's top two targets, much of the competition has dropped off of the race assuming that St. John's will be landing the two four star prospects. Sherman Richards, SJU's #1 target, is almost fully committed (96%) with only Virginia Commonwealth still after his services. Poncho Nardi is right behind Richards in his commitment status (94%) and all other schools have dropped their scholarship offers and are no longer targeting him.

SJU will give them their weekly phone call as well as sit down for a home visit with the both of them and hopefully lock them up by this Saturday.
