Seattle's quest for relevancy - Fantasy Draft

OFSM Opening Day Rosters

Goal
Basically its "Win Now" for me and this 'chise. I'm going to look for some solid vets that can fill holes for the first season and use my farms to replace such vets after year 1. I'm looking for a world series first year, and at least playoffs year 2. I will recap my first 25 picks with some analysis and then list other top prospects I get. Id like to start with a solid rotation and atleast get a good bat for the middle of the lineup early.

Draft
Pick 5 & 26

Round 1: SP Tim Lincecum
- Easy Cy Young Canidate each year. Throws hard, has great movement, and my team should be able to give him the run support he needs.

Round 2: SS Starlin Castro
- Best young shortstop in the game, hands down. Has great instincts in the field, has a good bat, and a good arm. great all around player that can get hits, steal bases, and flash the leather.

Round 3: SP Yu Darvish (R)
- Well I wouldnt normally go this pick in round 3, but seeing the way hes throwing in real life, id love to get that out of him in my 'Chise. Has real promise and potential Rookie of the Year. Plus this pick allows me to fill other needs before getting more veteran pitchers.

Round 4: 3B Pablo Sandoval
- Can hit the long ball, solid glove, and his well for average. hes locked into a 4 year contract so I shouldnt have to worry here.

Round 5: RF Bryce Harper (R)
- Another probable Rookie of the Year, got his first MLB action yesterday. Not much to say here, im sure most of you know quite a bit about this guy.

Round 6: CF Yoenis Cespedes (R)
- Solidifying the OF here, he has good power, speed, and bat. He can get 20 stolen bases with 20-30 HR and 70-100 RBI's.... and hes 26.

Round 7: 1B David Ortiz
- Power bat, not much else. Cant really field to well, maybe looking to pick up Anthony Rizzo later on to take his spot, or let Ortiz just DH, not sure what im going to do with 1st at this point.

Round 8: RP Jonny Venters
- One of the best relievers last year. Hes 26, made the all star team and had a 1.84 ERA.

Round 9: RP David Robertson
- Had an amazing year last year, 1.08 ERA with 100 K's. hes 26 and can throw pitch to lefties and righties.

Round 10: RP Javy Guerra (R)
- Good closer from my other 'Chise. Hes a little wild at times but can get the job done on a routine basis.

Round 11: C Travis D' Arnaud (R)
- Probably wont start, but I want to lock up my future catcher here to prevent him getting stolen next round on my long turn around.

Round 12: LF Desmond Jennings
- 25 year old "A" potential, has awesome speed and solid fielding. With little to no talent out in left I wanted to get him here. Looks like a couple years younger version of Brett Gardener.

Round 13: 2B Gordon Beckham
- Another young talent to finish the infield. An all around solid player, probably wont excell in any 1 thing, but will be solid in all aspects.

Round 14: 1B Anthony Rizzo (R)
- Splitting duties with Big Papi, quite a bit better fielder, not nearly the power but has a solid bat and speed. Future Firstbasemen locked up here.

Round 15: SP Andy Pettitte
- Looking to get 1 solid year out of Andy, maybe 10 wins and ill be happy. Hes gone at years end.

Round 16: SP Shelby Miller (R)
- Will crack the rotation, if not take the 5th spot opening day. Prbably the best pitching prospect not in the Majors yet.

Round 17: RP Octavio Dotel
- Lookin for a solid year here, just need him for right handers and maybe occasional 2 innings.

Round 18: SP Mike Montgomery
- Not sure if he will crack the rotation in year 1, but by year 2 he should be starting. Hes got an awesome Palm ball that gets alot of strikeouts.

Round 19: SP Dylan Bundy
- Another one that might not crack the rotation, I personally cant pitch with him very well, so he may end up being trade bait for a solid reliever before the deadline.

Round 20: SP Danny Duffy
- Solid young pitching prospect, just kinda tryin to solidfy my farm system since the rest of my picks will basically be fill in veterans for a year.

Round 21: RF Oscar Taveras
- 19 year old RF prospect that can also play center. maybe more trade bait here since I do have Harper.

Round 22: RP Tim Byrdak
- Another lefty that doesnt hive up a whole lot of hits. Im hopin for a solid year or two from him.

Round 23: RP Jose Contreras
- Righty here to help balance the pen abit.

Round 24: SS Xander Bogaerts
- SS prospect that probably wont see any major time since Castro is there, possibility he can fill seeing as he also plays 3rd.

Round 25: RP Robbie Ross (R)
- Long term reliever. Hes 22 with a "B" potential. Since my pen is basically a graveyard for relievers he's another touch of youth.

Noteables

SP Tijuan Walker
SP Gerrit Cole
CP Evan Marshall
RF Domonic Brown
3B Edison Rincon

April 6th, 2012
Seattle at Oakland
Lincecum vs Lee

The Seattle Mariners fall to the Oakland Athletics in the season opener. The Mariners couldnt muster up much offence vs the lefty Cliff Lee who went 8 and a third innings giving up 1 run in the top of the 9th. Lincecum pitched 8 full and gave up 2 runs, 1 earned on 7 hits. Yu Darvish makes his Major League debut tomorrow night at 0.co Coliseum as the Seattle bats looks to make the trip north from spring training.

Seattle at Texas
Darvish vs Peavy

Seattle drops another game. Not much of anything here for the Mariners who could only muster 2 runs, both of a HR from Ivan Rodriguez as Darvish only went 4 innings and gave up 3 runs. Seattle makes their home opener tomorrow night when the Oaklan Athletics come to town.

Breaking out of a 3 game slump, the Mariners take home a W. Safeco erupted when Ortiz doubled to right center sending Jennings in for the tying run, then again when Ortiz came home for the game winner in the bottom of the 8th. Jonny Venters picks up the W, his first of the year. In what was a hard fought win, the Mariners look to use this as fuel to try and pick up a few more W's in April.
