The HR started the scoring for Kansas City in the 2nd then the teams traded runs in the 3rd on an RBI groundout by Bob Bailey and an RBI single by Hurdle repectively. Boston tied the game on RBI singles by Fred Lynn and Butch Hobson in the 4th and it stayed tied until Jerry Remy belted a 2-run HR in the top of the 8th. The Royals got a run on an RBI single by Poquette then Darrell Porter and Amos Otis both had RBI singles in the bottom of the 9th to win the game. Cowens delivered a solo HR in the bottom of the 9th to avoid the shutout. Toronto opened the scoring with Tom Hutton belting a 3-run HR in the 4th and Boston answered right back in the 5th with a 2-run HR by Dwight Evans. The Blue Jays tacked on 2 more runs off Red Sox starter Mike Torrez (2-3) on a 2-run single by Otto Velez in their half of the 5th to take a 5-2 lead. Jimmy Sexton added an insurance run in the 7th with his 3rd HR of the season to end the scoring. Boston tried to come back with 2 on and 1 out but Victor Cruz shuts the door for Toronto.
