Jim Wright scattered 7 hits, allowing 1 run and striking out 8, and went the distance in pitching the Boston Red Sox to a 3-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. Butch Hobson had a 2-run double in the bottom of the 2nd to start the scoring and Dwight Evans added another run with an RBI single in the bottom of the 8th. Milwaukee avoided the shutout bid with Larry Hisle's solo HR in the 9th.

Gorman Thomas went 1-4 with a 2-run HR in the 1st as the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the Boston Red Sox in 10 innings, 5-4. Boston took a 4-1 lead with 3 runs in the 5th with a solo HR by Yaz, an RBI double by Dwight Evans and an RBI groundout by Butch Hobson plus an RBI groundout by Carlton Fisk in the 6th. Milwaukee scored a run in the 7th on an error by Eckersley before Bob Stanley came in and allowed the tying run in the 9th on an RBI single by Robin Yount. In the 10th inning, Don Money drove in the go-ahead run with a single then Ed Farmer pitched a 1-2-3 10th to record the win.

Lee May went 2-4 with 2 home runs and drove in 3 runs in leading the Milwaukee Brewers to a 5-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox. After trailing 5-1, Boston rallied for 3 runs in the 8th on an RBI single by Carl Yastrzemski and a 2-run triple by Carlton Fisk but Ed Farmer came in and shut down the Red Sox in the 9th for his fourth save of the season.

Cecil Cooper went 2-5 including a grand slam HR in the 9th inning to lead the Milwaukee Brewers to a 10-4 rout over the Boston Red Sox as Milwaukee took 3 of 4 games during the series. Gorman Thomas hit a 3-run HR in the 1st and Larry Hisle added a solo HR in the 3rd as the Brewers opened a 4-0 lead and never looked back.

Butch Hobson scored on a bases loaded wild pitch by Sid Monge with one out in the bottom of the 14th to give the Boston Red Sox a 6-5 win over the Cleveland Indians in the opening game of a 4-game weekend series. Dwight Evans hit a 2-run HR in the 2nd to give Boston a 3-0 lead before Cleveland tied the game on a solo HR by Johnny Grubb in the 4th plus an RBI single by Grubb and a sac fly by Gary Matthews in the 6th. The Red Sox came back with 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th on a solo HR by Jim Rice and an RBI single by George Scott. Bob Stanley came in in relief of starter Jim Wright and blew his second straight save as he allowed a pair of runs in the 9th to tie the game at 5-5. Johnny Grubb was named the player of the game with his 2-6, 2 RBI performance. Carl Yastrzemski left the game in the top of the 9th after making a diving catch. He is listed as day-to-day.

Boston took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 5th on a 2-run double by Jim Rice and an RBI single by George Scott. The Red Sox added 3 more in the 6th on a pair of bases loaded walks by Rick Burleson and Jim Rice then a groundout by Carlton Fisk. The Indians avoided the shutout with an RBI single by Alfredo Griffin in the 9th.

Butch Hobson went 3-5 with a 3-run HR in the 2nd to lead the Boston Red Sox to an 11-2 win in the opening game of the double header over the Cleveland Indians. Hobson also drove in a run in the 5th with a double that knocked Cleveland starter Rick Waits out of the game. Jim Rice, Fred Lynn and Fred Kendall each hit home runs as the Red Sox battered the Indians' pitchers for 11 runs and 16 hits.

Andre Thornton (pog) went 3-4 with a solo HR to pace the Cleveland attack but to no avail as the Boston Red Sox took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 5th on solo HRs by Fred Lynn and Butch Hobson and defeated the Indians, 4-3, to sweep the 4-game series. Bill Lee got the win as he pitched 8 innings of 5-hit ball and allowing two runs. Cleveland pulled to within one in the 9th off Dick Drago on a single by Alfredo Griffin but Mike Vail was thrown out at third base on a relay by Jerry Remy from Dwight Evans for the final out of the game.
