Rays take series, as Shields protects Rays slight lead over O's!!!!!

Tampa Bay, FL - James Shields delivered 7 innings for the Rays tonight, giving up just 2 runs on 8 hits as the Rays overcame a 2-0 1st inning deficit to cruise to a 7-3 victory and take 2 out of 3 games against the Orioles at Tropicana Field to end the month of August. B.J. Upton crushed a 3-run home run and the Rays also got long balls from Merrill and Longoria in the 8th to pace the offense. The Orioles got the tying run to the on-deck circle in the 9th, but Troy Percival got Kevin Millar to ground into a double play to secure his 30th save of the season. Daniel Cabrera was once again ineffective, giving up 4 runs on 5 hits and walking 5 to push his record to 11-11. Nick Markakis delivered yet another base hit to extend his impressive hitting streak and pushed his RBI total to 92 on the season while Brian Roberts stole his 51st base of the year in the losing effort. The Orioles are off to Boston to open up the last month of the season and are looking to play a key factor in the race between the Red Sox and Yankees for the division crown.

I use a deck of cards to determine who I make offers to. They are numbered 1-13, use aces as ones and so forth. It appears that the top free agents are usually on top. I select positions (both drafting and free agency) based on who gets released or retires. If I draw an ace, most likely it's going to be the best free agent at that position, if it's a jack, queen, or king, it will most likely be down the free agent pool, and so forth. So, it makes it fair for both me and the AI and I'm not stacking my team. I hate that, I like the game to be challenging, yet rewarding if the cards fall in place.

Well boys. The real season is underway. I'm pretty excited about the real Orioles this year, it looks like we are heading in the right direction. Good to see a team with heart and do the little things right. We may only win 70 games or so, but they will be an exciting team to watch, that's for sure. GO O'S!!!!!

I haven't been commenting, but have been following this dynasty for a while now. I've said it before and I'm going to say it again... I love your house rules! Professional sports games are way too easy to get good at if you just continue to sign the top free agents. When I played a game like Madden, I would never sign a FA unless I needed to due to injury. Much respect for the way you play!

Orioles looking good so far. You may have just gotten a Jeffrey Maier payback play to open up the game to 8-5 in the 8th. That should probably do it unless the Yanks can string together a few hits in the 9th.

*EDIT*

Bases loaded, 2 outs, bottom 8th and Aubrey Huff hits a double into the gap, scoring two. Make it 10-5 O's and this one is all but locked up.
