APF 2K Online>ACQB M10 Franchise Game Discussion/Ish-Talking Thread

Regarding the run game, I want to make a few observations from my own play that might help others.
First: It's imperative that you go light on the l-stick. This is not your old Madden--momentum is there and it needs to be controlled so you can weave into and out of holes. I've been in practice mode for a bit, and it's not all that different from APF in terms of needing to be gathered and poised for cuts.
Second: You have to work inside-out. It's not easy to take the corner at will, and there's a reason that backs who want to bounce everything don't last long.
Third: Following and setting up blocks is key. I've found it best to stay close to and weave around my blockers. It's easy to overrun them, and that always yields a bad result.
Fourth: The r-stick is very helpful in directing your ballcarrier after hits for positive yardage.
I have yet to run the ball really well, but I don't think it's so much the game itself as it is my own habituation to a big-play title like APF and to its pacing and controls. I've seen plenty of good running games versus me, and we've already got two great games in the books in the OF, in addition to a handful of good running days.
I think it's just a learning curve issue, and we'll all probably start hitting our strides in a few weeks. For many of us, this is a brand new experience, and everything looks and feels different. Not broken or bad, imo, just different.

Nice writeup on our game AW. I really enjoyed it and will be looking forward to reading more in the weeks to come. That game was crazy. Two turnovers inside the 5! You don't see that very often.

I took Lewis 18-78 (or close) against the frigging vikings. Running is a game of patience and dedication.
Crying about the blocking won't help you, practice will :-)
Run like your back runs, IE: Don't try to take Lewis outside the tackles. keep pounding an eventually the defense will tire and you'll start popping off 5,6,10,15 yard runs.
Watch popping the corners against the 3-4. A savvy vet is going to look for that and contain it. You have to make them respect the middle of the field.

EA football games have just been like that forever.
For instance, after signing RG Mike Wahle, the worst rated guy on my Broncos o-line is an 85 overall, yet I could barely find running room against the CPU Bengals.
23 carries for 64 yards with Knoholes Moreno.
That's what, 2.7 yards per carry?
Yikes.
I'm convinced that the only way to run well in this game is with a speed back who can just outrun everyone to the corner or a power back who can branch tackle after tackle and move the pile forward.
If you just try to rely on following your blockers, you get nothing in this game, because blockers just twitch around all over the place with no sense of logic.
I think the running in Madden is fine. I have games where I can't get anything going and others where my guys block well and open up tons of holes. Just like in the real NFL, you can't expect to carry it for 4+ yards every time. Sometimes you just have to chip away and seize your opportunities for big chunks when they're there. If just one of those runs of yours went for 25 his day would've looked a lot better.

The Running is fine(for me)...If you are having difficulty running the ball then that is a You problem.

Thanks for the tips on running, I'll try them out. I wasn't trying to imply that I think running is broken, I just think that it you need to take it for what it is to be successful, and that it's hard to survive off of it as your primary attack. When I'm the Colts online, I am satisfied with addai because he can break a few 5 yard runs a game, which is more than enough. When I'm the jags/ravens, and the team lives or dies on the run, it just hasn't been there for me.
I need to get better, no doubt, but I still think you all should take a close look to what happens to the blocking on sweeps, tosses, and stretch runs. For me, to make them work you need a super fast back or create your own play and run to a different hole like sportsdude suggested. Otherwise, you should keep yourself restricted to runs up the middle. Hopefully, I can deal with this better after some practice.
I'll be interested to see how many 100 yard rushing games we get this franchise.

Great summaries so far guys! Let's keep it up. Every game is an opportunity in franchise as it doesn't end this season. The fun is only beginning!
In terms of run blocking. Turbo is your enemy when running inside. Being patient and quick in terms of cuts with the L stick AND R stick has garnered the most success for me. I see openings and oftentimes my lack of discipline under pressure leads me to hammering on the speed burst which gets me tackled for a 10 yard gain instead of a TD. I'm not so quick to write off the run game... I've seen some pretty sweet blocking. I've had a lot of variance in terms of success, which I love. Nothing is automatic.. unpredictability is very fun and necessary.

Online game speed just got set to slow, so I think that will improve things greatly.

I'm will to bet money that he went into sprint mode right away.
Watch the replay again.
The four blockers have all already missed their block by the time the pitch finds its way into Gore's hands and the player has control over the run.
There's nothing the guy could have done to get them to make the block on that play.
Kind of like this one:
This kind of stuff happens to me pretty much every running play. At least one guy (usually more) on my 85+ offensive line will stand there and let a defender go right around him to blow up the run, and since my back can't run around/through people like some of the others in this game, I get stuffed for two yard gains all game long.
I don't have any problem running the ball with that Titans, who have a line that's just as good as the Broncos, but the difference there is that Johnson can run around people all day, and White can run through people all day.
Just ask Biffchan, whom I ran against in a scrimmage for about 300 all-purpose yards with Chris Johnson.
Problem is, this game is all about speed backs and power backs going around/through guys, and if you don't have that, you can't run consistently.
Bottom line is that this game is still way behind All Pro Football in terms of blocking AI, where I can take a bronze running back and routinely have 100 yard games just by following the blocks of a generic offensive line.
Anyway, I'm done taking up space talking about the blocking AI in this thread, 'cause it looks like someone has a thread up about it in the main Madden page that pretty much just confirms what I've been saying here.

I plan on 100 yards every game and would have had I not fell behind.I think I had over 80yards on something like 13 carries. Here I come Titans 100 yards plus!!And as a side note 9 min Acc clock seemed a little quick of a gm to me.Its gonna be a Great Season!
