EA football games have just been like that forever.

For instance, after signing RG Mike Wahle, the worst rated guy on my Broncos o-line is an 85 overall, yet I could barely find running room against the CPU Bengals.

23 carries for 64 yards with Knoholes Moreno.

That's what, 2.7 yards per carry?

Yikes.

I'm convinced that the only way to run well in this game is with a speed back who can just outrun everyone to the corner or a power back who can branch tackle after tackle and move the pile forward.

If you just try to rely on following your blockers, you get nothing in this game, because blockers just twitch around all over the place with no sense of logic.

No joke. I hate it when I call a toss play and my linemen are in position to block the oncoming LB's or DB's only for them to TURN AROUND and go back and block a DL. The end result? I get stuffed for no gain or a loss.

You really just have to keep pounding the rock and hope that you get lucky in terms of blocking and defensive awareness to break a big run. [Reply]

This is a perfect example right here:

EA Sports: Madden NFL 10 Video Highlight

Two guys have a chance to block James Harrison at the point of attack, but instead they run right by him to go block some inconsequential guys standing in the back of the endzone.

Blockers in Madden simply lack the AI to scan the field for the nearest threat and go pick him up.

The fact that double-team blocks literally cannot be done in the current engine also adds to the chaos, because sometimes you have linemen who are trying to pick up a nearby threat but can't because he's already engaged; instead they just twitch around and don't block anyone.

Madden has always been a speed back's game because the middle of the field is just a giant cluster**** of guys twitching around every which way, and the only reason it's a little easier to run through the middle this year is the branching animations and Pro Tak system they've put into the game over the last two years.

For the "in between" backs like Moreno who lack 40-speed or pure, bruising strength, there's pretty much nothing they can do to run the ball consistently.

I think I had a total of two or three open lanes to run through in the entirety of my 23 carries against the CPU Bengals, which is why my YPC was so ridiculous.

If you can't run around or through people, you just can't run the ball consistently in Madden, because regardless of how highly your offensive line is rated, they're not going to consistently create any lanes for you to run through, something even a generic offensive line can do in All Pro Football. Bullseye. I was saying the same thing to Schemer earlier. You have to have all your eggs in one basket (and a lot of eggs to boot) in order to succeed. I'm not the best runner, and I roll with the Ravens so I usually stuff the run, but I have yet to see anyone succeed with a quick cutting back a la payton from APF. I think you either need that huge back that doesn't mind getting hit in the backfield because he'll drag the pile 4 yards forward, or the AP that can outrun the bad blocking completely. If you are caught in the middle either way, then good backs fail, with a few exceptions. [Reply]

This pretty much says it all right here:

4 guys have a chance to block one defender in the open field, but they all miss.

We will advance on Saturday. Then Wednesday. Every week we'll keep that schedule unless owners have issues with it. [Reply]

I don't have any issues running the ball. None.

Not sure what you guys are doing wrong. [Reply]

Week One Raiders blog up at: http://www.operationsports.com/The%2...n%20Wind/blog/.

Great game by White Walls 420! A good, clean, competitive but friendly player whom we're lucky to have added to the league.

Also, a typical Raider game, marred by a phantasmagoria of f-ups at key moments. 7 drops. 90 yd pick 6. Uncontested pass plays of 51 and 59 yards. Priceless. [Reply]

Not seeing too many running issues outside of the ocassional wonked block..which will happen.

I simply try to follow the play exactly, and on outside runs, I lay off of turbo until my blockers are in front.

Andromada was able to run okay against me with Slaton, and he ran mainly between the "6 hole" and also outside the tackle on a few ocassions.

Anyone ever use or play against brandon jacobs? he isnt easy to deal with.

Using Turbo before your blockers get in front of you, seems to be the root of Madden run blocking evil. [Reply]

If he cuts that ball straight up behind the convoy..he walks in.

I'm will to bet money that he went into sprint mode right away. [Reply]
