Ummm..... it has it, but it doesn't. On the 360 it just crashes when you try to play online co-op, you can't complete a game. I'm not sure about the PS3.

Just played a game tonight to confirm that I was not misremembering:
this game does have local online co-op for up to four players, which can be played in the custom lobby.
I played a dude tonight who had gold Bo Jackson with branching tackles, workhorse, finesse and power and ran nothing but the hot route corner.
No wonder I stopped playing this game online.

That sounds like an oxymoron. Can you explain further?

Up to four players on the same console can team up to challenge other teams online.
So in theory, you could max out at 4 guys on one console vs. 4 guys on another console.
These games can only be played in the custom lobby.
This feature has been around as long as the 2K games have been online (2K1), I just wasn't sure if it had been taken out of this game and thought maybe I was misremembering it from another 2K game.
But it turns out they kept the feature intact for APF 2K8.
