Re: APF Players' Response to Madden 10 News

I ain't doing no resume!!! lol. Seriously I think Madden 10 could pull me from my football limbo. As much as I love NFL 2K5 and APF 2K8 2K5 is showing it's age and 2K's complete denial of APF 2K8's existence really made me float away. If this game doesn't pan out it'll just make me pop APF back in after getting all worked up over football. Right now I'd have to almost start from scratch with APF if I pop it in because I've forgotten so much.

I would definitely like to do a league but like mentioned before if the game isn't up to snuff I'd finish the league but wouldn't join another. Of course I'd have to have the same team I've been using since NFL 2K, those New York Football Giants

Re: APF Players' Response to Madden 10 News

1) Do you think APF will remain relevant after Madden drops; i.e. will it still get serious gaming time from you.

This is completely up in the air at this point. I am giving madden a shot. I'm going into it with the expectation I can play in online franchises and enjoy the game. If it's anything like last year I'll be playing APF again 2 weeks after release. That's fine with me, I love this game.

As far as the community, I think it will be difficult. If madden really doesn't improve I could envision a lot of us old vets getting together for some league action, but I don't see community growth in APF's future at this point.

2) What have you seen from Madden 10 that makes you say "they moved the sport forward" just like you saw APF and said "they moved 2k5 forward"?

Pro-tak style of animations is moving forward. It isn't tuned in so many areas so it's hard to gauge how positive its impact will be at this point. Online franchise would be just insane. I've been waiting for this since I was freaking 12 years old. I'm still also a believer that Madden's playbooks move the sport forward. I really think their playbooks are exceptional on offense (not as great on defense).

3) What still seems to stand out about APF from the evidence we have so far about Madden?

APF is alive. Everyone feels different. It feels like you are controlling people in a sport, not playing a video game. Momentum - physically and mentally are large factors in real sports and are large factors in this game. Kicking system - I love it. A legitimate passing game - Valdarez shredded EA with his analysis of this. The tackling/block shedding - on defense in APF it looks much more like the sport of football. Things flow. The speed of the game is great. APF did leagues right. Love defensive hotroutes (hate the "tipoffs" though ) I'll stop here because I'm preaching to the choir.

4) Are you planning on spending serious time with Madden 10?
Planning to. Doesn't mean it'll happen. Tried to last year also. I try to be positive about it but I'm not going to lie to myself if it blows like last year. I COULDN'T LAST 2 WEEKS LOL! Just a garbage game.

5) This one is purely for self-interest: how many would be interested in an online franchise with APF players--in other words, playing online in Madden with guys who play APF whom we know are real football-heads?

I'll be in one... HITMAN's league! Let's hope Madden can handle us

1) Do you think APF will remain relevant after Madden drops; i.e. will it still get serious gaming time from you. Yes

2) What have you seen from Madden 10 that makes you say "they moved the sport forward" just like you saw APF and said "they moved 2k5 forward"? Nothing really, i just don't believe Madden has the basic fundemental design to work with to ever be a great game. I'm not saying this out of a lack of respect, but i really question the talent of the people working on Madden and their vision of what a football game ought to be. I may be wrong, but i believe this Pro-Tak came to be because of a new guy that was brought in to solve gang tackling. I think more decisions like this will need to be made for Madden to ever see any real improvement.

3) What still seems to stand out about APF from the evidence we have so far about Madden? Just about everything, running game, passing game, tackling, kicking, celebrations, custom playbooks.

4) Are you planning on spending serious time with Madden 10? Yes, but in no way do i see Madden 10 coming close to the standards that 2K has set.

5) This one is purely for self-interest: how many would be interested in an online franchise with APF players--in other words, playing online in Madden with guys who play APF whom we know are real football-heads? No, i would just rather see more people playing APF 2K8 after Madden 10.

Re: APF Players' Response to Madden 10 News

I'll preface this by saying that I'm not quite as enamored with APF as some others. There are some pretty big defensive flaws that really annoy me. Online play really bugs me, and the CPU is awful (so many 3-4 teams...same plays beat every one of them).

It's the best game anybody has ever made, but it's starting to feel a bit worn to me (and hey, it's been a few years now )

1) Will it get gaming time? Eh, hopefully. They've made some improvements, but some things are still glaringly awful.

2) Pro-Tak should. Even the APF tackling model leaves quite a bit to be desired, so if we really see a good tackling system it will completely change football gaming.

3) Two things, one good and one bad.
The good is that every player is unique. I'm not sure game will ever replicate the different styles and strengths of so many players again.

The bad is the overblown momentum/prolonged animations. Nothing qutie as frustrating as trying to play LB and having your guy go into his zone drop (automatically) and tripping over his own feet when you try and move him. Theres a tough balance between the twitchy madden players and the unathletic APF guys.

4) I'm planning on it, no gurantee it happens.

5) I'd be interested...if I end up liking it.

Re: APF Players' Response to Madden 10 News

APF is like a good old buddy and I just feel good hanging out with my friend. Buddies aren't perfect so APF's flaws are ok with me.

But Madden? He hates me, I try to be his pal but the chemistry just isn't there and his flaws just aggravate me to death. I will try again to be his friend this year but from what I've seen thus far he hasn't changed enough.

I just want something that is fun to play that reasonably resembles football with player ratings that count. APF does it for me, Madden doesn't.

Well I pretty simlpy think that madden 10 will fly by 2k10 this year because the presention online franchise real good offline franchise mode and so on. I think APF is good. But I believe madden 10 will out do it big time.

Is there a 2k10 that I'm not aware of? If so, it would have to be a major upgrade on 2k8, which is the standard-bearer for on-field gameplay to date.

I wanted to bump this thread a week ago when E3 stuff was coming out, but didn't. Now that we've seen a bunch of new vids, heard about modes, etc., this seems like an opportune time ton continue the dialogue.

The more I see of Pro-Tak, the more I like that feature. It really gives tackling a dynamic feel, and looks like it could finally be the answer to those lame latch-on animations that seem to have no respect for size, momentum, etc. I hate how guys will latch on and give a HB another 4 yards from time to time in APF.

On the critical side, though, I simply find it unbelievable that they don't have analog running controls. That's so fundamental to realistic gameplay. I was watching Pasta or Chase or whomever was plaing in those videos while on defense, and they could rush to the line at full speed and then bail out on a pass play so quickly that it boggled my mind.

And I'm extremely disappointed in the news about missing features in Online Franchise. I'm not one of those "thanks for sharing, you did us a favor by being honest" types. The fact is, it's a broken mode. People ripped APF mercilessly for releasing with a bare bones offline mode. This is no different.

We can make house rules. Great. But the ommission of cap and trade logic is glaring. I'm just hoping good users can make it viable.

To my mind, suggesting that M10 will blow the 2-year-old game out of the water is an overstatement. It will clearly improve on tackling. The playbooks are likely to be better.

Other than that, we're talking about even performance in most other categories, if not greater performance by APF.
--running animations/locomition: APF
--pocket dynamics/OL play: APF
--commentary quality: APF
--player individuation: APF

To me, the fact that APF players are conceding tackling in this thread but not much else--given the video evidence we've seen--suggests to me that this game will remain relevant through the next cycle.

I will say, though, that I want the final copy of Madden to really impress me, even more than the E3 vids, because I would like to play with current rosters.

This is the reason I cant play Madden. I really want to, but I cant. I love running the ball, and not being able to be patient behind blocks and then cut or burst through a hole is rediculous. madden even had variable speed on Xbox. I dont get it.

Re: APF Players' Response to Madden 10 News

1) Do you think APF will remain relevant after Madden drops; i.e. will it still get serious gaming time from you.
I think APF will remain relevant. After people dissect Madden 10 they will find flaws and APF will still get rotation from true football heads. I know I will still play it,maybe even look into joining an online league.

2) What have you seen from Madden 10 that makes you say "they moved the sport forward" just like you saw APF and said "they moved 2k5 forward"?
Pro Tak is a major innovation, something that hasn't been seen. The pile on tackles are something we've been craving in a video football game. And the online franchise mode. 2 major innovations to move Madden forward.

3) What still seems to stand out about APF from the evidence we have so far about Madden?
The passing game. With true route based passing and being able to place the ball in specific spots,APF still tops Madden in this. You cant really chew up a zone in Madden;cheesers sit in zone all day and user pick with the super jumps and swats. Its all about the ball placement in APF.
Commentary is still a plus as well. And something I really like about APF that Madden still cant get right is the interactive sidelines. This still wows me in APF.

4) Are you planning on spending serious time with Madden 10?
Probably will with the addition of online franchise. But i will say if the gameplay isn't improved,I'll put Madden down real quick for the second consecutive year.

5) This one is purely for self-interest: how many would be interested in an online franchise with APF players--in other words, playing online in Madden with guys who play APF whom we know are real football-heads?
I think it would be some very competitve football going on,I'd be interested for sure!
