Re: Official SSX Impressions

This uhh... wow... Explore is amazing. I thought I was having fun with World Tour mode? That was just icing on the... err... mountain. I'm glad I got through that first, though. It lets you work with every character and built them up to about Level 5 or so, getting some boards and equipment usage along the way, learning and doing all of the runs the first time through and getting diversity with each kind of event.

However, this thing about trying to beat your friends' scores (so far there are only two people I'm really doing this against) is amazing. Plus, you earn so much more XP this way. It's just so cool.

This game has a lot of lasting and everlasting appeal. Too bad The Show is coming out next Tuesday, that's all I have to say.

I've only got one other guy putting up scores and they're pretty weak. I hope to see some real scores put up soon to go up against.

Well, I'll start putting up a pretty good fight for you.

I'm trying to rank up all of my boarders on the same levels, so I won't always put up the best possible scores, but I'm trying to do just enough to compete.

Re: Official SSX Impressions

I think it's more fun to just slightly one up somebody instead of blowing them completely out of the water. Then they can come back and take it back over and the back and forth is what makes it fun. Sometimes a really great run just happens though. I scored over double what my friend did on one run and kinda felt bad. He hasn't gone back to try that run again but he has set scores elsewhere.

I've been using 3 riders almost exclusively and mostly playing Global Events. Since I haven't played all the way through World Tour I haven't even unlocked everybody yet, only the ones I've payed to unlock.

Alex, my race character, level 8 she's hella fast. Bought her an epic outfit that has an Extra Tricky Time perk so I can boost down the mountain for longer on race events.

Kaori, level 7, she's my trick character. I got her an outfit that gives her a trick bonus and an epic trick board. She's gets a good at trick bonus to begin with.

Elise, got her up to level 8 as she was racer before I unlocked Alex. Speaking of Elise, I bought her an outfit with the perk of "Big Hands" figured it would give me grab bonuses or something. Don't waste your credits, it cost me over half a million and it literally gives you BIG HANDS thats it.

I use Griff in Explore mode since he's well rounded, he's only up to a level 6.

Looks like I like playing with girls.

Call me ignorant as I forget thus from the PS2 days and with this recent release. Do all boarders have unique characteristics which should be used for the various drops? I've been using Elises exclusively, yet after reading this I think this may not be the best approach.

I have a feeling this option will come later via DLC to pull more in after this initial release.

If anybody on the 360 wants to add me, just message me your OS user name when you send a friend request. Going up against friends scores is crazy addicting.

Well, as far as aesthetics on the slopes go, they move so quickly that I don't bother noticing/caring if their uber tricks are different from one another, but their signature super uber tricks are definitely all unique.

As far as using different boarders for certain events, they all technically have their own "thing" when unlocking them in World Tour mode. Basically the way that WT works is you do maybe five events per mountain range or so (two Race It's, two Trick It's, and one Survive It). The first mountain within the range you can select will have three events; the first event is either a Trick It or Race It against the character you are going to unlock in a one-on-one battle. For instance, you unlock Elise after beating her in a Race It event in Patagonia. Once you unlock that character, you are restricted to use that character for the entirety of the mountain range.

Anyway, I haven't really explained what needed explaining, but you start building that character for that mountain range specifically. The biggest thing about each mountain range are they all need specific gear for you to get down the right way. Patagonia needs wingsuits, for example. The other gear that can be had for their respective Survive It events are Armor (for Trees), Carving Ax (for Ice), Oxygen (for Air), Headlamp (for Darkness), Thermal Goggles (for Whiteout), Solar Warmers (for Cold), and one more that I can't remember right now... I also don't remember if Avalanche had certain gear, because there isn't anything special that you use along with it.

Each character definitely has their own specialties, though. Eventually I can see you rounding them all out to be the same kind of character when they're maxed to their best abilities, but until then I would use Kaori and Mac for tricks while I'd use Elise and Moby for racing, etc. However, sometimes you need tricks for boost to get down the mountain the quickest, or sometimes you need a player's special gear so badly (you can buy the right gear for any character, but its attributes probably won't be as good) to increase your time/score.

Such a fun game!
