Grandslam Tennis by EA for the PS3/Xbox is due out around Xmas. Hopefully they get all the nuances of the real tour in this one like maybe 3 out of 5 sets. I have no idea why this has never been allowed as an option in career mode in any tennis game. It's like Madden only allowing you to play 2 quarters in franchise mode. Unbeleivably stupid as developers always say that gamers don't want to play a 3 out of 5 set match because it takes too long. Then give us a choice and if we want to play 3 out of 5 sets then we can.

The 360/PS3 version of Grand Slam Tennis is not coming out this year. It was put on hold indefinitely. Here's the link...

That's ****in ridiculous. I could see a delay of a few months for this but the 360 Natal is coming out next Xmas at the earliest. So that means this game will be delayed a year and probably closer to spring of 2011 if there is a probable delay with Natal motion controller.
I don't even want to play tennis with motion controls especially when it's so easy and cheap to play real tennis. Most of the time I want to sit on the couch not swing back and forth for a 25 shot rally sweating my kahunas off after a day of work. Same reason people have no desire to play Madden or basketball with motion control. Golf is cool because it's less work, tennis not so much especially when they'll probably screw it up anyways. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I think it's great. Tennis games have not done well so far, and they SHOULD. Honestly, tennis was the first video game ever made (pong) and it is taylor made to stay cutting edge in a video game.
I play real tennis 14 hours or so a week. Honestly, I would still come home and gladly swing a fake racquet if it was done right. It would be amazing.
I wish tennis was cheap in real life..after breaking string, buying multiples of the same racquet, tournie fees, club/court fees, apparrel, tennis bags..buying shoes (that get destroyed in 3 months), cans of balls, overgrips...it adds up quick.

You need to move near me. I have several public outdoor hardcourts in pristine condition that are mostly empty 90% of the time that are free of charge. Although I do admit where I live is probably the best place in the city for public courts with availability.
Then again I don't go thru multiple racquets like you and don't play 14 hours a week but you prove my point, only hardcore tennis players will want to continually be swinging a racquet in the air in your living room. The average gamer will get bored of that pretty quick when you have work and family obligations and just want to let off some steam at the end of the night especially when you consider it's almost guaranteed there will be quirky things wrong with the motion controller that will ruin the experience.

There's a lot of assumptions in your post. The EA Tennis game for the Wii is doing very well. I dont think you will hve run around your house to play this game, it will just be a more interactive experience. Let's be honest, there has not been a good tennis game out in years that uses the sticks. Topspin 3 was not bad, but nothing has really blown anyone away. A solid change could be great for certain sports games.

On the other hand, I scored 16 on him, using my very weak kick-out serve. Online is even more of a joke: matches are largely dominated by people going out wide, running their opponents way off the court, then hitting an easy second ball down the line for a winner. Sorry, it's not that easy in real life, or you'd see that happening every point. FIX THE SERVING.
.
It's almost imposible to improve the service in a game like TopSpin because of the way power is generated in this game. All you have to do is hold the button down and you get power on your shots and you can preload your shot too. While someone is serving all I have to do is hold the button down and I will always get the ball back. Personally, I think its a bad idea to design a tennis game like this. This is really why I don't even play Tennis games anymore. You never see aces and you hardly see any errors, its just not TENNIS.

Personally I feel that depsite it's flaws that GST is the best tennis game that I've played and it's due to the motion controls. It's not very deep but the motion controls make sense for a tennis game. Top Spin 3 was a good game and I played the hell out of it but they over-complicated the control scheme.
Developers are spending too much time trying to make difficult stick/button combos for racket swings. I wouldn't mind another regular control based tennis game but these developers have to realize that many of their design decisions are severely flawed. IMO motion controls are the best thing that has happened to video game tennis.
