MLB Front Officer Manager (PC) impressions

I'll update my impressions as I go along.

1. The PC version is a direct port of the Xbox 360 version - right down to having 360 controller support. Well, support is too mild a term: DEMANDS it.

2. The game is sluggish, though I'm playing on a laptop - I'm sure it'll be faster on a desktop. You can slice the graphic options if you like.

3. The game starts at November 8, 2008, and my Yankee owner gave me a $176M limit. It's going to be tricky to get Sabathia, Teixeira and Burnett now. Of course, a ton of dead weight is coming off the books, but...

Still, it would be nice to have a way to start at spring training. There's a roster update already.

4. I have no idea why the game isn't Live for Windows, because the game requires you to create a Live-like account, and everything about it resembles Live. Just allow people to log onto their regular Live accounts.

Of course, maybe the reason it is Games for Windows but not Live for Windows is that it requires you to install and use Steam.

That's it for now on initial impressions.

How could it possibly "demand" it? Can't you just use mouse/board?

Okay, Bat**** Crazy #1:

Nov 4. Brewers sign C.C. Sabathia for $28M per year for 5 years.

Bat**** Crazy #2:

Nov 4. Dodgers sign Manny Ramirez for $24M per year for 4 years.

OK, by "demand", I mean the interface is extremely 360 controller specific. You can use a mouse/keyboard, of course, but you end up clicking on "B" button graphics, etc.

Had me worried there...I can live with that. Just don't force me to use a controller on a PC game.

The second one isn't THAT bad.

First major error in the game: you never ever ever ever have major players like this being signed on the first day of free agency. Ever. Furthermore, the Brewers shelling $28M per year for any player???

It's not realistic. Since when has Boras ever had a player sign a contract immediately? Big players like that, an agent will play teams against each other.

What player ever jumps at the first contract they see? Even Sabathia didn't leap at the initial $140M offer by the Yanks.

Since you got it for PC, any chance you could do me a favor and take some CitiField screenies?

Okay, I've solved the problem for now. You can edit players - and the player models look great! - and give them their current salaries, then trade them to their teams - and then save it as a new roster file for the game to load.

For now, I'm assigning Sabathia, Teixeira and Burnett their current Yankee contracts and trading them to the Yankees.

Later, I'm going to use this page

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/features/freeagents

And assign all traded players to their new teams as a start file.
