I must admit i was one of the very few who enjoyed this game somewhat at first, I liked some of the features it was realeased with like the realtime commentary and action on the field and control. But after time I kind of realized what a halfassed effort this was. It's kind of a pathetic offering. The AI is terrible. The batting interface is a joke. Does 2k just not have enough resources to concentrate on multiple sports anymore so all their energy has gone to their NBA game? Because most of their other games are pretty crappy these days. I also played the bigs 2 which was a solid game but lastted about a week before i got bored with it's arcade nba jam style.

My initial reaction is: No, they can't do it. They've had several years to do it and they continually fail.
This is my one glimmer of hope: 2k9 seems to have a strong foundation and would be really good if they just cleaned up a bunch of crap:
-- Fielding is an abomination in almost every aspect.
-- Control too good for both CPU and user (too few walks)
-- Stealing is too difficult.
I don't know much about making a game, but it would seem to me that this kind of stuff should be correctable -- easily correctable when you have a year to work on it.
If they also improve some presentation elements, they could take a big step forward.
My advice to 2k: Beg, borrow and steal from the Show. Do whatever you have to do to copy that game, and do not be ashamed.
Considering how many years you've had to work on this title, you should be embarrassed that you haven't come close to matching The Show.

I think it's a money thing though. I just don't think 2k has the resources to be able to concentrate on multiple sports titles anymore.

I think it's as much a lack of in depth knowledge of the sport as it may be money, though it may likely be because of a lack of money.
The sad thing is that there are 100's or 1,000's of people like me and you on this board who would glady test and provide feedback for free if it meant a better baseball game, but unfortunately they leave the quality of their titles in the hands of the in-house testers and it shows in the overall quality (or lack of it) every year.
It kills me that every year (and not just for this game, but for most sports games) that they spend about a year on the game and we find most of the bugs within the first 24 - 48 hours.

There's always hope. Last year had some solid foundational aspects with the new dev team working on it. I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with this year. I didn't really get into this game too much, but I truly believe the framework is there for a good game if they do well this year.
That's the key. 2K seems to be taking a "going back to move forward" approach to their games. Their hockey game (which suffered from the same philosophy last year) could be a good indicator of how much they'll get done this year. Not in terms of the nuts and bolts of baseball necessarily, but general upgrade. We'll see, but I don't think it's quite as dire as it's made out to be.

Absolutely. And more than that given 2K9 had a truly outstanding zone hitting engine -- best ever IMO. If they clean up the hitting cursor, I'd honestly consider getting the game just for batting practice, gameplay screwups and assorted nasty glitches be d*mned!

i'm sensing what will happen with this series is that 2k will plug one hole, only to then create two others... the flaws of this game are just too glaring if you're trying to play SIMULATION style baseball.
i've never played a game in which i poured my life into and could NEVER get the sliders to play right... i just gave up and i've traded this game in and deleted all of it from my hard drive. and the funny thing is, i have no regrets and won't look back. i gave it a try, but in the end it's just a pitiful game for any hardcore baseball fan.

The same can be said for any game IMO. No, what makes 2K's games so unique is that within 24-48 hours, we discover all the bugs, glitches and broken game programming that 2K's developers knew were present (and the developers and beta testers couldn't possibly miss them), but didn't bother fixing before releasing the game.

Do what I did: go into batting practice and observe the ball physics -- simply outstanding! I guarantee you'll be in baseball gaming heaven! Just don't exit that mode to try and play an actual game... :-)[Reply]
