Again, it's not a body turn, but a head turn. Often times pitchers do throw to first without an idea of what is going on (catchers call picks all the time) but to be aware of what the runner is doing, you have to look and he will notice...to effectively control the running game, you have to be aware of the runner and to be aware of the runner you have to look at him.

And for second base, it's even more so. You do have your time picks with your SS or second basemen, but the rest of the time you still have to turn your head to make sure the runner isn't getting a walking lead so he can take third standing up. If you never look at second (or first) in real life, runners will run all day on you. Most picks at second are "daylight" picks and are accomlished while looking at the bag and the fielder breaks-glove out-to the bag. You have your timing picks as well based on looks or what not, but most picks are based on the SS darting to the bag and the pitcher reacting.

Again, I'm not saying you have to look to throw a pick...you can pick as much as you want, but you have to look to know if you will "need" to pick or (not need to). I agree most successful picks aren't done while looking (looks are typically used to set up runners), but they are done in the midst of looking (look - pause- pick).

My point is that as a pitcher in real ife, the runners know when you are aware of them. You have to visually look at them to know if their lead is too big and to try and control them. In video games, this is never done. You can have a runner with a huge lead on second and know he is 12 feet off the bag without ever looking at him. In real life, you would peak back and he would likely shorten up. In a video game this doesn't happen.
You seem to be completely ignoring peripheral vision. A pitcher absolutely does not need to make any motion to check on a runner at first, second, or third under any circumstances.

Really, you're making a mountain out of a molehill.

Re: MLB 2k10 Wish List

I enjoy 2k9's pitching and batting experience with the analog sticks. But over the weekend I went to my buddies house and played The Show09.....WOW....THE SHOW BLOWS 2K9 OUT OF THE WATER.....The presentation is wonderful..... the way the outfielders field and how the infielders field are right on. They feel like they are real players playing baseball......The field seems bigger than 2k9 just like a real game.....and you cant hit an outside fastball and pull the baseball into the seats for a HR. So after all of that here is my wish list.

1) Make the game like the Show but keep the pitching and batting experience.

For me its that simple......you would sell more copies and make a lot of gamers happy.....and i know that the Xbox wont have better graphics than ps3.....but you can get pretty close....look at madden......that's pretty close every year....

P.S.

For the love of god please make a game mode like the show has......you can make yourself and play your way up through the minors and onto a major league club......if this happens i will leave 2k9 alone....but until then.....look out

Re: MLB 2k10 Wish List

My personal list:

1.) Improve franchise mode. 2k7 had a better franchise mode than 2k9, which I dont understand at all. They CUT stuff from the game. Why would they do that? It makes no sense. Being able to hire/fire managers, a Free Agency system that actually works etc... these things are needed for 2k10. Oh, and schedules for the next season that are actually realistic. (Offdays on Saturday? what the hell?)

2.) FINALLY improve fielding, especially in the outfield. Seriously, I dont know how to exactly fix it, but its horrible in its current form and needs to be reworked. This has been a problem since 2k6. I am sick and tired of outfielders camping under a routine fly ball and completely missing it. So annoying.

3.) BETTER MANAGER AI. This is a huge gripe for me. I hate seeing the opposing team leave a relief pitcher out there for another inning after he had just gotten shelled the first inning he pitched. I also hate seeing MR guys who are used to pitching maybe an inning a game being used to pitch 2 or 3 innings. I simmed with the Marlins once and saw them use their CLOSER, Matt Lindstrom, for 5.1 innings in an extra inning game. Utterly ridiculous. The CPU AI simply has no idea how to manage a pitching staff at all, and its more and more apparent every day.

4.) Stats that are not embarassingly wrong. You would think 2k would be embarassed when stats about players as they are stepping up to the plate are 100% ridiculous and incorrect. Dustin Pedroia was MVP in 216? Really? They played baseball in 216? Joe Mauer was 17th in the league in wins last year? Really? Its like they didnt even check this at all. Whoever was in charge of this should have been fired.

5.) Add in a "Road to the Show" mode. This might be a stretch, considering they should probably focus on other things, but Ive always wanted to try the RTTS mode, I think its a great idea. Making a SP and having him progress through the minors and into the MLB is an awesome concept for a baseball game, and one that should be included in this series as well.

These are my main issues. I really hope they actually fix some for next year.

Re: MLB 2k10 Wish List

BRING BACK MVP!!!!

That was no doubt the best game that i've ever played for xbox/pc (the show 09 was overall the best)

1) Stop making "attempts" to making the game more realistic (for example, the dust clouds).

2) Have a consistent gameplay. When i first started playing the game, i was hitting homers all day, but now it's impossible, even with albert pujols.

3) Change pitching to that of the show and MVP. The pitching in 2K is garbage, sliders and regular curveballs always get mixed up and it is impossible to throw a good 4-seam fastball that doesn't get spanked for a double or more.

4) Realistic ratings. Lincecum throws 98 in real life. I threw with him, and the fastest he got was 92. I was speechless.

5) Work on other signature windups/stances. The ONLY PERSON they got RIGHT was Lincecum, and thats because he's on the damn cover.

6) STOP THE BUGS/GLITCHES. THEY PISS ME OFF. Such as, slowing down when going into a circle to catch a fly ball, or the CPU never ever ever ever ever missing a diving catch.

I could go on for hours, but the main thing is that 2K needs to take 2K10 off and just work on 2K11 for two years. Either 2K makes a mass overhaul of the game and just starts over, or Microsoft is going to have to negotiate with EA to make MVP again and get rid of 2K.

2K9 mocks baseball games, change is necessary.

blow away the damn pitching cursor. it's retarded
make fielders catch

re: MLB 2k10 Wish List

Here's a start. I'll edit in things as I think of them:

2K10 Wishlist
> >
1)Pitch Count:
a.ACCURATE NUMBER OF PITCHES PER GAME (pitch count)!!!
b. Accurate number of balls, strikes and ESPECIALLY FOUL balls to help accomplish the pitch count.
c.Pitcher Stamina needs to be accurately matched to the pitch counts so they don’t get tired too fast or not fast enough.
d.CPU Batters need to be patient and not swing at everything thrown at them.
e.CPU Pitchers need to throw an accurate amount of balls out of the zone so the user is able to work the count and draw walks. Average number of walks per game both teams included is roughly 6. Adjust accordingly.
2)Hitting:
a.Accurate number of hits and types of hits per game. MLB average is roughly 19 hits per game (that includes both teams). I believe it’s something like 3.5 doubles, .5 tripes and 1.5 home runs but don’t quote me on that. Do your RESEARCH of current MLB averages and adjust accordingly. Make it so that the average MLB hitter gets a home run every so often and not just the power guys. Currently the only people that anyone can hit homeruns with are power hitters.
b.CPU and USER putting the ball in play is too easy. There needs to be more swings and misses and a good bit more FOUL BALLS! This will help raise the totals for both strike outs and walks and once again help with pitch count.
3)Fielding:
a.Fielder speed needs to be accurate so that balls can make it to the gaps but also so that infielders are able to get to pop ups in shallow outfield territory. Fielder reaction speed needs to be slower on line drives and hard hit ground balls in the infield. Balls hit in the hole and down the lines almost NEVER make it through currently and that’s not the case in real life.
b.Outfielders going back on balls needs to be more difficult. It’s too hard to hit a ball over an outfielders head because they can just run backwards and magically find the ball. I really liked the idea of the ball cursor not showing up if the outfielders back is to the ball. It’ll make going back on balls more difficult. The cpu should have just as difficult a time going back on balls as the user.
c.The sync issues with outfielders getting under routine fly balls needs to be fixed. No more silly plays where outfielders totally whiff on balls they should catch easily.
d.The cpu shouldn’t dive so much. They dive on balls they could easily get to without diving. Success rate of making a diving play needs to be decreased.
e.Throwing shouldn’t be so accurate. Garrett Anderson shouldn’t be taking a semi deep fly ball in left and throwing out someone at the plate and it happens to often. Guys shouldn’t throw bullets across the diamond from third base from their knees. Throwing need to be looked at.
4)Base Running:
a.Base stealing needs to be made accurate. Look up the MLB steal % ratings. You’ll find the BEST catchers throw out 40% of runners. Many base stealers are in the 80% or higher range in stolen bases. Reflect this in the base stealing settings.
b.There needs to be a wider range in base runner speed. I’ve noticed slow runners like Brian McCann and Adam Dunn don’t feel as slow as they should be and blazers like Reyes and Pierre don’t seem as fast. Make a bigger difference between the two.
c.First to third, first to home, 2nd to home, third to home tagging on a fly ball and infield hits should all be looked at. It seems the speeds and runners ability to do these things are off. I’ve especially noticed it’s harder than it should be to get a runner in from home who’s tagging on third. This somewhat has to do with outfielder throwing.
5)Stadiums:
a.Stadium size needs to be looked at. The rockies stadium should feel huge and the Phillies stadium should feel tiny. The dimensions aren’t bad but they aren’t quite right either. Most stadiums feel too small. The infield needs to feel wider so more balls get through the hole and down the line. The outfield needs to feel slightly wider but much more deep as enough balls don’t go over fielders heads even when playing normal depth.
6)Ball Physics:
a.Balls don’t roll for long enough. Hard hit balls down the line need to roll into the corner instead of dying out in the grass. Balls hit on the ground and into the outfield seem to die too easily.
b.Drives in the outfield need to “hook” accurately. Everything seems to be a straight shot and balls don’t come off the bat that way in real life.
7)Player Accuracy and Editing:
a.Players need accurate contracts. They weren’t even close this year.
b.Player editing needs to be opened back up. If there’s a setting for something it should be able to be edited. NOTHING SHOULD BE GREYED OUT, NOTHING!
8)Collision Detection:
a.This game needs collision detection between players. Broken up double plays, slamming into the catcher at home, fielders colliding with each other, colliding with the wall. Players also shouldn’t just “warp” through each other, it looks bad.
b.There needs to be collision detection with the ball as well. The catcher throwing out someone who bunted their way onto first needs to have a chance of pegging the runner in the back with a throw. A first baseman trying to turn a 3-6-3 double play should have trouble with pegging the runner in the back. The same goes with run downs. The same goes with ground balls that are hit through runners. The ball needs collision detection with the players.
9)Default Sliders:
a.The default sliders should reflect what I’ve posted above about realistic stats, hits, pitch counts, etc. The rookie setting should be set so a rookie will see realistic stats. The same goes for the pro, all star and legend sliders. The game needs to play well out of the box. TEST it with different skill leveled individuals and groom the sliders around the MLB averages for various different stats.
10)Controls:
a.Bring back the 3 step pitching. 2 step is too easy. Make it an option to use 2 step.
b.Make it EXTREMELY difficult to pinpoint a pitch on the harder settings. It’s way to0 easy to put the ball where you want it all the time. Pitchers should get wild and throw balls and walk people and they should also leave fat pitches over the plate.
11)Misc:
a.Bring back the option to “sim to the end” or sim the rest of an ongoing game.
b.Definetly KEEP the option to save a game in progress and KEEP 2kshare. Both are great features.
12)Presentation:
a.The presentation was extremely solid this year.
b.Make the color coded balls that label each pitch type an option this year.
13)Franchise:
a.Fix free agency and player contracts. Way way off. Not enough players enter free agency and the player contracts are just off.
b.Make sure simulated stats stay near the MLB averages over the course of a season.
c.Injuries are a bit too common especially on sliding/diving plays.
d.Rain Delays: include them. Starting pitchers should have to be pulled after a lengthy delay just like they do in real life. Include double headers and schedule readjustment. Don’t go overboard with the rainouts like in previous years though.
e.40 man rosters, September roster expansion, etc. All this needs to be added.
14)Bugs:
a.Disabled List bug and players who are day to day staying injured needs to be fixed.

re: MLB 2k10 Wish List

I'll try and keep this short and sweet...

GFX/Animations

1. Best signature styles in the business, bar none. Please let us EDIT players stances. It kills me and about 99% of everyone else who bought this game that we can't edit play stances.

2. Please, please, please fix the back swing animation. It's awful. Not everyone's back swing looks exactly like Raul Ibanez, or Brett Gardner.

3. The running animations are also really bad. Anything would be an upgrade.

Gameplay:

1. Cursor hitting is ace. Along with the pitching controls it's the saving grace of this game, and what keeps me playing. REFINE REFINE REFINE cursor hitting! It can't be so hard to make the cursor appear bigger or smaller depending on ratings can it?

Here's my idea for cursor hitting, bare with me...

1. Cursor dynamically expands and contracts based on player statistics DURING an at bat.
2. Ever watch ESPN sunday night baseball? Ever notice on top of the score ticker it displays stats? An example of those stats would be, Chase Utley - 1-2 count - .286 AVG 10 Hrs.
3. USE THESE STATS! Use the stats that are compiled based on different counts to expand and contract the batting cursor. This would be a GREAT way to award a player for working the count. If I have a 2-0 count with Ryan Howard, I expect the cursor to be HUGE. If the count is 1-2 with Howard, it should be thin since he strikes out so much.

I think this would be the ultimate in cursor hitting, and could also be applied to pitching. If I'm pitching with Oliver Perez and I have thrown 2 balls and no strikes, it should be come MUCH harder to throw a strike based on the fact he walks so many batters.

If you guys make those changes, I'd buy 10 copies!

re: MLB 2k10 Wish List

I enjoy creating the best players from each franchise so anything that would make that task a little easier would be appreciated.

Offer all the legendary players from the get-go without jumping threw hoops.

Let us play with the legends in Season and Franchise and if "Classic Parks" are offered let us also enjoy these parks in Season and Franchise...

I like season mode because it's uncomplicated but you cant go from one season to the next and retain all stats.

It takes thousands of hours to create 30 teams with the best players from each franchise, I don't want the cpu to inter fear with my rosters from season to season...

Add more first and last names and nicknames to the name database.

Make it easy for us to create a season with 16 teams 8 for both the National and American leagues...

Please add a more elaborate face tool...add more players to edit...
