Re: MLB 2k10 Wish List

This is just based on the demo, but it seems to be pretty close to the final game from what I've read.

-Complete overhaul of non-signature animations. Add a bunch of generic batting stances, running styles, etc. so everyone doesn't look the same in the field or running the bases. Add as many throwing, catching, diving, collision animations as possible. Make the transitions smooth.

-Better hit detection between players and objects.

-An option to just have an old style base stealing system where you just queue up a steal.

-Real zone hitting. Keep cursor hitting though.

-Pitching that isn't so pinpoint. Come up with a system that even if a perfect pitch is thrown there's still a chance it will be slightly off target. Basically have the ratings matter more. If my pitcher has a low rating it should have an effect. How about instead of having a little ball showing me where I'm going to pitch you show a circle. If you throw a perfect pitch the ball is guaranteed to break somewhere within the circle. Pitchers with good accuracy get a smaller circle, and it would vary in size by which pitch you choose. And make this apply to CPU pitching too! The CPU feels like the can throw it wherever they want and only throws balls or hits a batter if they want to.

-No bugs!

-And of course the AI hitting, but I assume that's being worked on for this year and won't be a problem next year.

Great list, JBucc. I agree with everything you said, especially about the animations. I know it's a lot to ask for, but they either need to totally overhaul their animations (not gonna happen) or add hundreds of new transitions. Really, I think the animation stiffness simply stems from this engine being obsolete. But again, for 2k10, there are so many other issues that need to be worked on that it's probably not wise for a brand new engine at this point. That would open up a whole new can of worms (and bugs).

I have to wonder, based on VC's work with the NFL 2k series, are they going to introduce a totally new engine next year? They did it multiple times with NFL, so maybe they plan the same for baseball. I just hope the quality of this series reaches that of NFL 2k5. That would be baseball gaming heaven.

Re: MLB 2k10 Wish List

My wish for 2K10 . . .

Better Collision Detection

Better animations (I thought the DP animations in 2K8 were better)

Bring back STEP INFLUENCE for hitting

Bring back 2K8's 3-pt pitching!

Bring back the missing sliders from 2K8

Bring back the ability to edit player's stances and pitching deliveries

Bring back some of the on-screen info that was taken out (pitch count, hitter's info, etc)

Make it easier for us to see who's batting

Make it easier for us to see the opponent's lineup card

Just my early two cents.

Re: MLB 2k10 Wish List

how bout actually paying attention to players race... McCutchen is white in the game and Cahill is black. WHAT? And thats just 2 examples. Also get the rosters correct. Top prospects are in the FA pool i.e Jason Heyward, Rick Porcello, Matt LaPorta and others not to mention Carlos Carrascois on the Padres AAA team under a fake name. Outfields that actually catch the ball. Too many times i have been in the circle to catch it out there and either the outfielder moves on his own and misses it or he is in the circle and the ball just hits him. An option to slide? I havnt found that yet. Better sliders, the ones from 2k8.

MVP to me was by far the best baseball game ive ever played. If we can get EA to come back and make MVP again and make it like it was, id be in heaven

Under the Sega Sports brand, WSB went through multiple developers. 2k1 was a disaster due to no control over fielding. 2k2 was produced by Blue Shift for Dreamcast and played a decent, but offensive heavy game. 2k3 was an absolute gem- the game produced extremely realistic results, but lacked in presentation. 2k4 I passed on due to a few subtle changes. Blue Shift was fired and Kush (a former subsidiary of Visual Concepts) took over for 2k5, which I though was alright, but definitely not as good as 2k3. 2k6 I skipped, and 2k7 was pretty horrible in my opinion. And then 2k8...

VC has, to some extent, brought this game back to its roots. Cursor hitting has returned, and everything feels closer to what it used to.

I'm not sure what everyone's fascination/obsession with the MVP series is. Personally, I never got into it. I guess it's just taste. But let me say this, I don't want EA taking over VC. After all, who's to blame for your precious MVP disappearing? Oh right, it was EA that bought up the NFL license, and 2k got back at them by buying the MLB license.
Cursor hitting is the #1 reason the early 2K baseball titles were HORRIFIC. In fact, the only saving grace I can remember from any previous gen 2K baseball title was the old K Zone pitching meter. Everything else about the series has been rank steaming garbage.

If you don't understand why everyone loves MVP, there's really no talking sense to you about any kind of sports games at all.

But to answer your question, who's fault is it? It's Take 2 Interactive's fault. The NFL approached EA and offered them the deal. If EA passed, T2I would have taken it. T2I then made the pettiest possible response that did nothing but push EA out of baseball. T2I acted like a god damned child to try to get back at EA and did nothing but screw over baseball fans.

It's a shame GameStop took over EBgames and changed their return policy, or I might be able to get my hard earned $60 for the garbage I just bought.

edit: And for your information, VC developed WSB2K2.

Dude are you out of your goddamn mind? Have you even played it?

Were you the type of person that prefered Go-Bots to Transformers? Sam's Choice to Pepsi (don't know what that is? Just play 2K9 a bit more)? Box cutters to antidepressants?

That's basically what the comparison is between the 2K series and MVP. MVP05 was as close to a perfect game as you could get, to the point that it's still in demand especially on the PC market. Unlike 2K, they actually listened to their consumer base and made improvements. But then again, being a Yankees fan, I wouldn't expect you to make much sense as far as what's good and what's not. Do me a favor and go pull a Cory Lidle.

Re: MLB 2k10 Wish List

Wishlist for 2k10:

-A good baseball game.

OK, I'm pretty sure that's what everyone here wants after playing this year's entry. However, the specifics:

-IE that actually works (meaning players take more than 4 strikes a game)
-Real bat sounds
-Real hits depending on where ball hits bat (a leaning off-the-end-of-bat hit should not result in a 400+ ft. homer, and a late swing should not result in pulling the ball)
-Ability to edit stances and deliveries
-Better animations (especially batter when he makes contact with the ball and running)
-Crowd that actually sounds really excited and loud when something good happens
-A worthwhile celebration after winning NLDS, the pennant and the World Series. This year was terrible.
-If not working scoreboards, then scoreboards with something on them. Seeing absolutely nothing on Wrigley's board makes me shutter.
-Forget quick play, and replace with exhibition mode (where you can choose time of day, stadium, lineups for opposing team).
-Uniforms that look like they are cloth, not plastic (absolutely no movement to them in 2k9)
-Outfielders who, 97 percent of the time, catch the ball when they are in the circle and facing it (it's not Tee Ball league!)
-Fielding camera customization or different options for fielding cam

The fact that I have so many (and still have some minor wishes as well that I didn't add) is pretty damn troubling. I'll probably get some slack for saying this, but IMHO, 2k8 was better.

I'd say the thing I really want the most outside of game elements is for 2K to work on their marketing/community relations.

Marketing-wise, don't hype big announcements that aren't that big (RATINGS! YAY!) or hold off gameplay videos until two weeks before release (which, as another OSer said, essentially spells doom).

Community-wise, it seems like they really don't give a hoot about what the people want, as evident by the Ron answering questions thread, not knowing about a lot of the gripes and not answering a lot of the questions in general. They need someone to scour boards like this and work closely with the developers as a result of what's being said and written. We know you might like the game, but is that really who you're making the game for? I certainly hope not.

Excellent post.

To go further on the crowds, the whole "Real World Atmosphere" they made a big deal out of is pure garbage. Fans (only within a specific radius of the ball target) react to balls hit in the stands, great, whooptie f-ing doo. How about having them react, even just a little bit, in high leverage situations? Late innings, runners in scoring position, two outs, things of this nature, real life crowds are all on their feet and electrified. 2K9 crowds are silent with their asses planted firmly in their seats.

Players on the bench of the winning team looking distraught and upset when they actually win the game is laughable too. I had Josh Beckett go 8 innings, closed it out with Papelbon for a save, and when it cut to Beckett after the final out, you'd think Paps had given up a walk off home run.

The biggest thing T2I needs to do is hire programmers and testers that have actually played and are fans of baseball. As of now, I'm thoroughly convinced not a single person at 10 Hampton Landing, Novato, CA has ever owned a baseball glove.

I thought I would go check out some of the threads about The Show, expecting to see at least a little complaining. They are all loving their baseball game so it is possible to make a good baseball game. 2k just isn't cut out to make a good baseball game. The most sad part is that they don't even care.

Re: MLB 2k10 Wish List

1. total player edit...

2. more retro uniforms...

3. give us a slider so we can tone down the blur affect...

4. offer all goodies including classic stadiums retro uniforms and all the legends from the get-go...

5. let us customize the game by giving us the option to turn off all or some of the unnatural things like flashing lights.

6. I would like to have a slider to tone down the circles under the player who is fielding the ball...

Thanks for a great game VC...
