Nothing wrong with being a realist. As bad as Notre Dame was last year, I expected more of the same this year, so I just cheer them on. Which is cool in a way, having no expectations. Not that I want that to be the case long term, but it sure makes the San Diego STate and Navy games exciting.
I look at it like this, with elite programs, you are in a win/win situation as long as you don't hit that point of no return and your team totally breaks down like a Nebraska where you weatch teams like Missouri and Kansas rise up and pass you within years of being one of the greatest football machines ever.
Its a win/win because if the current coach does bad, he'll be fired and a new one should come in with a relatively stocked cupboard and a brand name to deal with. If you win, you win.
The problem comes if you fall into mediocrity, lose the brand name, and can't recruit. I don't think Miami is to that point yet.
