American League Park,Wash.DC-In order to give his regular starters an extra day's rest,A's manager Connie Mack gave the ball to relief specialist Weldon Henley who pitched well through 6 innings,but he faded badly in the 7th allowing the 2 critical runs that gave Washington the edge that was needed to steal away another victory from the A's,4-3.Fred Hueselman knocked in the game winner with a two out RBI single to right scoring Joe Stanley.

Tuesday, June 27th, 1905: St. Louis Helpless Against Flaherty
Patsy Flaherty of the Pittsburgh Pirates really strutted his stuff on the mound today with a 2-0 victory. He was almost untouchable, bewildering the St. Louis Cardinals with a 6-hit shutout in which he struck out 1 and gave up 1 walk.

So far this year Flaherty has made 14 starts, tossed 122 innings, struck out 27 batters and walked 32. His record is 10-4 with a 2.14 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .232 batting average.



Tuesday, June 27th, 1905: Young Whitewashes New York
Irv Young of the Boston Beaneaters was lights out in a 6-hit whitewash of the New York Giants.

He told BNN reporters, "I had my good stuff and it went where I wanted it to go."

He registered no strikeouts and 1 walk in shutting out New York 4-0.

This season-to-date Young has 8 wins and 9 losses and a 2.26 ERA.
