Highlanders Steal Home Twice In 7-3 Win
Columbia Park,Phila.Pa.-In a blistering tirade,Athletics skipper Connie Mack exploded on his team after a perceived lack of effort in today's 7-3 defeat."I will not accept anything less than 100% effort, and when a team steals home on you twice in one game, your not giving 100%"."To be fair, the Highlanders are very aggressive on the basepaths and the only way to combat this is to keep the baserunners down to a minimum,Waddell didn't do that today,he allowed 11 baserunners and thats just too many if you expect to win consistently in this league".The game started out with the Highlanders building a 4-1 lead after 2 innings, the Athletics never recovered.Dave Fultz and Frank Delahanty did most of the damage with both players going 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored with Fultz stealing 3 bases and Delahanty 2 including a steal of home for each player.Jack Chesboro pitched just well enough to improve his record to 2-0.He went the distance allowing 10 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 1.For Philadelphia,Schoolboy Knight made up for his poor effort in the field by going 3 for 4 with a double an RBi a run scored and the teams first home run of the season. Here's the box score.
