Athletics Defeat Highlanders In A Wild One!
Columbia Park,Phila.Pa.-In a game that had everything, the Philadelphia Athletics were able to come back in the bottom of the 9th to defeat the New York Highlanders 7-6.From the opening pitch, the game was a back and forth affair with NY taking an early 1-0 lead only to see the Athletics score two in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead after 1.The Highlander took the lead again in third and again the A's came right back to end the inning up 5-3.In the top of the 4th,the Highlanders tied it again and this time there was no response. The game stayed tied at 5 until the 6th,when the Highlanders took a 6-5 lead on a Walter Clarkson single bring home Doc Casey who tripled to lead off the inning. The game would remain 6-5 until the bottom of the 9th where a Lave Cross single started the inning and was followed by an Ossee Schreckengost single giving the A's first and third with no outs.Harry Barton then ended the game with a double to deep center field scoring both runners and giving Philadelphia the 7-6 win. Here's the box score.
