It's disappointing to hear that, but it doesn't accomplish anythingif this board starts up a vilification crusade. I don't even think this issue relates to what you oversaw with the game anyway.
I will say that in terms of things like Madden IQ, and sliders, and the way that the game is tweaked from year to year in house, and all that, it seems like those methods of balancing gameplay detract from the overall quality of the gameplay. Like NCAA and the way it goes about creating wide open gameplay, sure it was achieved through tweaking the mechanics of the game, but the quality of the gameplay bore less of a resemblance to football because of it.
Sure it may output stats that look correct when you play a game but the overall flow of the game and how the result is achieved seems to be more a product of multiple, heavily nuanced components working against one another and I think from a user standpoint there is a very apparent sense of "artificial" in the way the games play out in these football titles. It's hard to describe but for example, playing NHL 08 just feels like hockey it's amazing how the sense of the sport is conveyed in an almost palpable way, whereas Madden or NCAA don't achieve that with me (FWIW I've played both sports for many years in an organized environment).
I think the key word for next gen as far as gameplay goes is "organic" so far the football games just haven't achieved that at all. I think if there could be a football game where the inherent design of the gameplay allowed a more organic and dynamic game of football to play out then the need for sliders at all would be minimized. Then again, football is an incredibly complicated sport, and maybe it's not possible to achieve the things I mentioned with this generation of hardware and of course the constraints of the, politics, budgets, and time issues, of the development cycle.
