 | Thursday, April 6th, 1905: Takes Action, Flick Suspended
The Cleveland Naps were not very happy with the home plate umpire in today's 7-2 loss to Chicago at League Park I. One in particular -- Elmer Flick. Upon being called out on strikes, the Naps right fielder gave the ump quite an earful. For that, the man in blue gave him the thumb and sent him to an early shower.
But the disgruntled Flick lingered on the field for another five minutes berating the umpire. Finally his manager got him off the field and into the clubhouse.
But it got worse after the game, when Flick told reporters, "He was blind today. They played 'Three Blind Mice' for him. If he doesn't know the words to the song, I'm sure we can get it in braille, so he can follow along."
For all of his escapades and after-the-game oration, the league office suspended Flick for 5 games.

 | Wednesday, April 5th, 1905: Bad News for Chicago, Weimer Hurt
Chicago fans will be disappointed to learn that Jake Weimer developed dead arm syndrome while throwing a pitch in today's game. After the doctor informed the Chicago Cubs manager that Weimer was expected to miss 1-2 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the starting pitcher could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.

 | Saturday, April 8th, 1905: Cubs 1B Out
Watching Frank Chance getting helped off the field today at West Side Park II, fans of the Chicago Cubs feared the worst. The news wasn't quite as bad as initially feared, but the first baseman will miss 1-2 weeks with a strained thigh muscle. "We feel we've dodged a bullet. When you see a guy break down like that, you worry right away," a team spokesman said. Chance suffered the injury running the bases in the game against the Phillies.
