I may not be the biggest follower of soccer... but FIFA is just amazing this year. PES' poor physics make me reflect upon what once was with that series.

I am a big follower of football....err soccer, and FIFA 09 isn't even as good as 08 was...PES this year is better than FIFA in so many ways. It's a shame that most people prolly won't give it a chance. And not the demo either...it's not a good representation of the gameplay.

I know plenty of W11 diehards who hate PES once again.

Physics make or break a game like that... and when soccer feels like you're playing a lead balloon, it's no longer soccer.

The physics in PES are way better than FIFA. In FIFA the ball is on a path, but the ball is way less predictable in PES.

I agree. In FIFA everything feels so scripted. One thing I really love about PES is that no two goals are ever the same. And the Champion's League addition is really nice.

Re: Operation Sports 2008 Soccer Game of the Year

Every single video I've seen of the new PES has ball physics that look absolutely terrible. The ball hardly has any bounce to it. When you're dribbling, the ball looks like a lead nugget.

I haven't played it myself and quite honestly I don't think I will. From videos alone, PES' ball physics are not as good as the PS2 versions of the series. While the ball may not seem like it's "on rails" I still wouldn't constitute it as scripted.

FIFA has issues with some of the AI but looking at the pros and cons of both, even from just video highlights of FIFA and PES, FIFA's ball looks to better reflect how a real ball would travel IMO.

Don't rely on video, and try to play a game before you say it's not realistic. The ball in FIFA is floaty and not nearly as realistic as in PES. Not saying PES is perfect, but it's done a much better job than it's counterpart. PES 2009 is at least on par as where it was back in the PS2 days.

FIFA looks good, but when you spend time with it, the flaws become obvious and are really maddening. FIFA08 was a really good game, but 09 for some reason has taken a step backwards.

EDIT: Also, IMO the management games don't belong in this category, they belong in the text sims. Comparing FIFA to Football manager doesn't work....as IGN found out.

Of course the ball physics in FIFA, while not of the "lead balloon" type, the floatiness of the ball is more hot air balloon type.

I think the on the ground ball physics in FIFA are alot better than PES and the in the air physics in PES are much better than FIFA.
