I played a night of online FIFA, and I can really say now what bugs me about the way FIFA plays. And it's what you just said, it's all about how you defend and pass. FIFA's defense is too perfect. It's like 08 in that even much lesser teams were able to match up with the biggest clubs in the world. In 09, defense is king....every defender is Rio Ferdinand. You never catch them wrong footed and they always make the play. You can't dribble a defender because they are always perfect in their play. In real life, if a defender runs right at a player with the ball...they *will* get burned. In FIFA, this is exactly how you play defense and it works 99% of the time.

And because it's near impossible to dribble a defender, you have to constantly play 1-2 passes and move forward all the time. Or play long, over the top thru passes, etc. Build up play in 09 is impractical because of the strength of the defense. Without the ability to dribble defenders, FIFA forces you to play a route one style of football.

That, in a nutshell, is the problem with FIFA's gameplay...a combination of super defenders and sloppy dribbling. I also think some of this sloppy dribbling has to do with FIFA's animations. They are much too long, and while they might look good, they are unrealistic and clunky.

So while it might seem to you that FIFA is the future, let's not forget that it was PES that was the future a few years ago. FIFA couldn't play it's way out of a wet paper bag and PES constantly outsold FIFA year after year. If it wasn't for PES making FIFA the embarrassment of football games, FIFA wouldn't be near the quality it is today. EA has a way of being complacent with it's games tho, so let's hope they continue to refine and improve...because PES has already made inroads into the next gen games and I won't be surprised at all if in a few years they are making EA red-faced again......and you might be regretting naming yourself FIFAFAN

FIFA does not play at a realistic pace because the default build up settings are way too high. It creates a pin ball type of game with those settings. Add the high shooting setting and it's three quick passes, a cross, and a shot. Boring and very unrealistic.

Because the Adidas Live Rosters actually change and I can use my saved CTT's online as well. I'll have to do this from now own... thanks!

Does it get better with your updated tactics? That was my #1 issue with the game and the reason I ditched it. Pace is horrid. They said they worked on gameplay all year and released a game with an arcade pace and with no way to make it slower (no difference between Normal & Slow, nice job EA).

I know they work hard, but they have a long way to go before the game plays realistically. Too many gameplay fixes need to be made and it will not happen in one year. Since nothing much changed from last year's version, you wonder if the developers know that or will implement these changes.

Even if the tactics work, their game modes are so much weaker than the competition, so for me there is no reason to even bother. Play Now games do nothing for me. It is a shame. MM is right up there with Madden and NCAA franchise modes as all time terrible.

This game is missing so many little things that make soccer great. I hope they can make the game better so that I can give it a chance again in the future.

Absolutely. If you still have the game go into any team in the EPL and add the settings I posted and play against that team. Adjust yours as well.

Better yet, put build up speed at 20 and passing at 20. Under chance creation drop passing below 50, Crossing at 40, and put shooting at 30.

Defensively, try Pressure at 15 or 20 and aggression anywhere between 60-75.

I played two games last night. As AC Milan at San Siro I lost to Arsenal 1-0. Adebayor scored from just inside the penalty area in the 23rd. Arsenal made at least 6 or 7 passes before scoring the goal. Both team had 6 shots each for the entire game.

In the second game, I played as Roma at Stadio Olimpico against Inter. I took the lead on a PK in the 14th and eventually lost 3-2. Inter had 20 shots for the game and Ibrahimovic had 9 of those. Their goals were scored by Mancini, Zanetti, and Ibrahimovic. The pace was little quicker in this game but definitely realistic. Both games were different. That's what I'm looking for. The great thing about this was that the CPU (Inter) had to pass the ball back to defenders on many occasions to sort of set up an attack.

I can now play on WC at 10 minutes with all Manual settings except shooting and passing and I have those at SEMI.

I'm going to post a video here within a couple of days so people can see what's going on.

As far as Gameplay modes, I agree, you're spot on that PES has more and is much deeper. FIFA however is a keeper for me for the Tournament mode (fatigue is irrelevant) and the challenge of possibly bringing a Serie B team up to serie A. I probably won't be able to stick with it because of the lack of depth, but I'll try.

I used the most recent downloaded roster file online. I went in to that file and assigned the CTT that I created, and then saved the file and renamed it "Default Tactics".

I'm not interested in the Adidas Live Season at all. I want the players in any game that I play to perform based on their ratings and not altered ones because they happened to have 1 off week in the EPL or Serie A.

Thanks therizing02. I might give it a rent one day and try it out again. Will be hard though as PES will be hard to put down. I still cannot believe that the US version has not been updated yet, starting to get pissed about that.

I keep hearing about the update but I don't even know what it's for. I downloaded a good option file so it was all systems go.

I sent you a PM, but maybe it would be better to just post it here for anyone else who is interested.

I'd like to know how you handled the settings for the lower english leagues, and I'd love to get the tactics for the other leagues/teams. If you don't have enough space in your locker, I'd be happy to help host a couple leagues in mine.

For the lower leagues, I just used either the Relegation tactic for the EPL or the mid table tactic for the better teams in the lower leagues.

BTW, these are by no means Gospel as far as settings. So, if you guys have any feedback or suggestions, I'm definitely open to that.
