Physics? Are you serious - who cares about physics when gameplay is what truly matters. You want playability in a soccer game and that has to do with game play - if you say otherwise then you are kidding yourself.
Nice vid! The challenge is on. I'm gonna make a vid that has just as good or better goals. But I do have to give props. Nice job! That said, I still like Fifa's controls better and can guarantee that if guys took the time to learn them intimately that they'd be shocked at how much you can really do with this years game. Stay tuned and get another vid ready!

really quick -- I love the controls of FIFA. Actually I love FIFA in matters of what it has to offer. What I don't love though was the fact that the CPU, no matter what custom tactic you set for them, attacked and played one-route football. That is an absolute game killer.

I would either have to settle for professional and beat every team because I tackle the ball oh so very easily, or world-class and get bombarded by 20 shots a half.

But, I love FIFA's dribbling - love it!! Seriously, the most fun ever is in the arcade with Clint Dempsey and then actually using CD in a game beating out Richards from MANC city - yeah, seriously I love it. Problem is the game is not complete - there is no playability.

I do not want to play against a CPU team that is the same starting lineup from 5 years ago when I first played them in my MM.

I welcome the challenge, Brian - take care bud!

I totally agree about the MM flaws. They do bug me. But I really don't have many problems with the CPU AI being really one-dimensional. I think it's about how You play them. I do a lot of change of direction and switching the field. Also I tend to play Defensive to Ultra with Team Pressure. It does also help that my squad are pretty much all 96 or better, too. But I'm really gonna blow out the vids once I get my Hava. I've gotta defend my game! But hey, I don't think that PES is anything less than great. Just not my cup of tea. No pun intended....

Brian, man - you're gonna make me break out the recording/commentating device here soon, lol - i'm going to host a show soon, I'm sure- ha!

Definitely man, MM has flaws - I tried a Preston North End MM and just got too boring - too predictable. I will say that there are some few teams that you use or play against - that do not play the exact route one football, it's funny how that works.

But if you think about it, the reason that works is not exactly the custom tactics (try putting shooting to '0' and see what happens) I believe it is the rating makeup. Funnily enough, this is what PES comprises of - there is no OVERALL, there is a bunch of ratings that shape that specific player.

Has anyone really understood what "mentality" meant for PES? Aha,, there's a thinker!

I just played 2 matches in Exhibiton to get a taste of what my default Devils play like (spoiled with all of my super players.) Played Man City and wnded up winning 1-0 with a goal in the 114th. They played bull-me-over Route One ball. Wasn't much fun, as I was defending and getting slammed around. Next I played Bolton Wanderers and I was able to corral them pretty good using Ultra Defensive and High Pressure. Made some really nice runs of my own and was able to play with style. They had to resort to multiple passes as I had all of their long lanes shut down and was constantly hounding them all over the pitch. Two games, two totally different experiences.

I'll grant that Fifa is waaay more offensive in nature than PES. It just seems to jump all over any mistake or just mug you and it's off to the races. I would prefer a little more subdued game, maybe if fatigue actually worked correctly? But all in all, I love how I can pull the perfect, intuitive skill and have it end up in an awesome goal. Now I can say that I know it's me and not just ratings. Of course I've already played 400 matches of 09.

So I guess I'd have to say that I might be less objective and accepting of PES. But I do hope you put together a vid. I'm gonna make one, too. And mine is gonna show how you can make the CPU play anyway you want it too. It's just your settings and how well you can defend and pass. But I'll grant that PES is more of a realistic pace. But I know that there are things, with enough skill, that PES can't ever do. Fifa is the future of footie.

Matt,

If you ever wanna give FIFA another shot let me know and I'll PM you my CTT settings. I have assigned every team in the EPL(and all leagues underneath it), Ligue 1, Serie A(B), La Liga, Bundesliga, Eredivisie, and a few other selected teams like Benfica, Porto, Sporting, Celtic, Rangers, Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, and Fenerbahce.

With these settings and I am getting GREAT gameplay from the CPU. They attack in different ways and I'm seeing more types of goals. With the Defensive settings, I've been able to score goals with defenders. The game plays so well on WC right now, that I'm even more bummed about the lack of depth in MM.

I agree with you that the PRO level is ridiculously easy which translates to boring. At default WC is a route one CPU fast breaking shot fest.

The problem is that the build up speed and shot sliders are waaayyyyy too high. I had been experimenting with the Shooting sliders at 2 and was still having trouble keeping the CPU under 20 shots per game on WC.

Because a lot of people's teams of choice to use are the English teams who play long ball with high shooting settings and a fast build up, most will see the high shooting numbers. It's even worse in the lower divisions. If you started a Preston North End MM, the majority, if not all of the teams that they play have a build up speed higher than 80 with long ball pass settings and high cross settings. That is the problem. That is also why you see more than enough of the bombing down the wings and center to a CF or ST.

I think EA took into consideration that the English league is very physical and teams play a ton of long ball. Unfortunately, they over programmed the CTT for the English teams. The good news is that they can be changed to create a more sim like experience.

Sorry for the rant mods

Shoot me that stuff, Mike. I'd like to see some more varitation. BTW how do you go in and edit the CPU teams stuff? You don't have to answer that here. Just e-mail or PM the settings and I'll call you sometime about how to change everything... Brian

Brian,

You can actually download them from my EA Locker. I have made a few changes since then but give them a try.

I would take the default roster without the Adidas Live update and apply the tactics to that. Save that roster.

I made 4 different tactics for each league. One for top teams, Euro Aspirants, mid table teams and relegation battlers. Yes, the idea came from BCB (THANKS!) but I changed the tactics from what he had.

Here is what I have set for the Top teams in the EPL:

Speed 30
Passing 50...Free Form
Passing 65
Crossing 40
Shooting 30...Free Form
Pressure 25
Aggression 75....I may lower this.
Width...30

Top Teams in Serie A

Speed 20
Passing 25....Free Form
Passing...55
Crossing....45
Shooting..30...Free Form
Pressure 20
Aggression 75
Width 30

Here is how you make the changes:

Go to:

Manage Teams---->Team Management-----select the team you want to edit.

Select Custom Team Tactics

The Top will be highlighted. ex. Arsenal Default...hit A.

Your saved CTT window will open. Select the tactic to apply and that's it. If you have Auto Save activated you obviously won't have to save the rosters at the end, but I always did so that I can change the name of the file.

Good luck.
