Aragón Outstanding, No-Hits Assassins
Thursday, April 21st, 2118: It was a terrific day for Víctor Aragón of the Baltimore Gothams at Assasins Ballpark. He stood out with a fantastic 2-0 no-hitter against the Apex Assassins.

"I knew I had a No-No going in about the sixth inning, when I noticed no one was talking to me anymore," he said, referring to the time honored superstition of teammates avoiding the pitcher so they won't jinx the no-hitter. "Don't let people fool you. Everybody on the field and in the ballpark knows what's happening. They just pretend they don't."

For the game Aragón totaled 1 walk and 1 strikeout in a very strong outing.

The Baltimore pitching coach marveled at his performance, "His mechanics were perfect and I don't think he threw one bad pitch in the whole game. He was that good."

Aragon pitched the first no-hitter for Baltimore since Terry Stover did it 28 seasons ago.

Beacher Named Top RL Hurler
Sunday, May 1st, 2118: Veteran Lyndon Beacher put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Toronto Marlboros, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Beacher racked up a 4-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 1.63 ERA over 38.2 innings and striking out 46.


Hathorn Earns April's Best Pitcher Honor
Sunday, May 1st, 2118: Jack Hathorn's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-1 in April, the 29-year-old Tokyo hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 22 in 40.1 innings, logged an ERA of 1.56 and allowed opponents to hit .250 against him.

Gravateira Snares RL Top Batter Award in April
Sunday, May 1st, 2118: Lázaro Gravateira was at the top of the hit parade in the Republic League throughout April. For the outstanding month, the talented Hartford right fielder was chosen the Batter of the Month.

He compiled a .424 average with 36 hits, 7 home runs, 22 RBIs and 24 runs scored.


Simai Earns April's Top Batter Prize in CL
Sunday, May 1st, 2118: When Taye Simai stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Noblesville right fielder posted a .383 batting average with 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 18 runs. Simai also worked pitchers for 2 walks to post a .421 on-base percentage.

Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2118: Chris Moore earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Toronto first baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Moore hit .409 with 1 home run, 7 RBIs and 7 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.


Rookie Left Fielder Honored by CL
Sunday, May 1st, 2118: In the month of April Roy Mitchell hit the ball hard, often and with authority and was honored as the Continental League Rookie of the Month.

He did it in standout fashion as the Noblesville's left fielder hit .233 with 4 home runs and 10 RBIs while scoring 13 runs.

May's #1 Starter Named in RL
Wednesday, June 1st, 2118: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Bert Hood still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 31-year-old starter for Toronto was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and 1 loss with 17 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 3.32 ERA in 40.2 innings of work.

Checking out his stats for the season, Hood has registered 7 wins and 2 losses in 10 starts, 3.00 ERA and struck out 29 batters in 69 innings.


Baltimore Reliever Named CL #1 Pitcher
Wednesday, June 1st, 2118: Manny Vázquez has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in May and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Gothams bullpen ace collected 6 saves and 14 strikeouts in 17 innings, holding the opposition to a .207 average and posting a 0.53 ERA and a 3-0 record.

Vázquez has 11 saves with a 5-0 season record and a 1.19 ERA. He also has 21 relief appearances, thrown 30.1 innings and struck out 32.

RL's #1 Batter Announced
Wednesday, June 1st, 2118: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 29-year-old Roberto Mendoza put together a solid offensive month for Toronto and was crowned May's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .301 with 6 home runs, 24 RBIs and 20 runs scored.



This season in 50 games, Mendoza has hit at a .296 clip with 58 hits, 10 home runs, 43 RBIs and 37 runs scored.


Baltimore's Callaghan Top CL Batter in May
Wednesday, June 1st, 2118: Mark Callaghan battered Continental League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 30-year-old Callaghan told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Callaghan hit .375 with 5 home runs, 25 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

So far this season Callaghan is batting .315 with 7 home runs, 32 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has 57 hits in 181 at-bats, 31 walks and a .413 OBP. Callaghan has played in 49 games.

Lópes Voted May's #1 Newcomer
Wednesday, June 1st, 2118: Vicente Lópes was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old second baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen May's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 23 games Lópes batted .313 for Los Angeles, slapping 30 hits in 96 at-bats with 4 home runs, drove in 17 runs and scored 19 times.

This year Lópes has hit at a .274 clip with 26 RBIs, 4 home runs and 28 runs scored.


CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Wednesday, June 1st, 2118: Youngster Vincente Meléndez emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Napa Valley deserved the honor, batting .274 with 9 home runs and 20 RBI. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Meléndez enjoy the limelight.

Meléndez on the season is hitting .261 with 11 home runs. His stats include 26 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

Republic League Announces Top Starter
Friday, July 1st, 2118: Chico starter Matt King really put the chill on opposing teams in June and today was acclaimed the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He excelled with a 5-0 mark and 1.61 ERA in 6 starts. In 44.2 innings, he fanned 45 and walked 9.

This year King has made 16 starts, thrown 112 innings, fanned 95 batters and walked 27. His won-lost record is 12-2 with a 2.33 ERA.


Urbina June's Best Hurler in CL
Friday, July 1st, 2118: There's no doubt that Winemakers starter Pedro Urbina earned his Continental League Pitcher of the Month award. He left absolutely no room for doubt as he mowed his way through the opposition in June.

During the month Urbina was 3-0 with a 1.54 ERA. He made 6 starts, tossed 41 innings and had 31 strikeouts.

In season stats Urbina shows a 8-4 record in 19 games, 124.1 innings, 108 strikeouts and a 2.17 ERA.

Nemoto Grabs RL Best Batter Award for June
Friday, July 1st, 2118: In the last year of his deal with Hammersmith, Kiyomitsu Nemoto has created some waves by winning June's Republic League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .362 batting average with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He also worked RL pitchers for 10 walks and a .438 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 34-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

Currently Nemoto is batting .276 with 14 home runs and 43 RBIs.


Craig Crowned Batter of the Month in June
Friday, July 1st, 2118: Carl Craig was declared the Continental League Batter of the Month today. Tokyo's second baseman stroked 35 hits in 101 at-bats for a .347 average in June.

He also hit 10 home runs, drove in 20 and scored 26 runs.

Thus far this season Craig is hitting .337 with 19 home runs, 60 RBIs and 63 runs scored. He has 97 hits in 288 at-bats and has played in 78 games.

Matsumura Voted June's Top RL Rookie
Friday, July 1st, 2118: A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Sozen Matsumura just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for June.

Over the past month the 25-year-old catcher for Colorado hit .256 with 20 hits, 6 home runs and 15 RBI. He also logged 10 walks and compiled a .376 on-base percentage.

For the year Matsumura is hitting .202 with 11 home runs. His stats include 38 RBI and 33 runs scored.


Rookie Third Baseman Honored by CL
Friday, July 1st, 2118: June's choice for Continental League Rookie of the Month is Rory Rankin of Apex.

The talented third baseman started 22 games, hit .290 with a .353 OBP. For the month, he totaled 27 hits, 2 home runs, 15 RBIs and 10 runs scored.

Rankin is presently hitting at a .282 pace with 5 home runs and 27 RBIs. He has played in 75 games and scored 25 times.

Tickner Shuts out Noblesville
Thursday, July 7th, 2118: Kyle Tickner of the Apex Assassins gave the Millers a steady diet of fine pitches and he walked off the mound with a complete-game shutout. He blanked them 6-0 on 2 hits with a total of 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.

The Apex manager said, "Tickner was on quite a roll. He gets great late movement and he doesn't give in to the hitters."

Up to now Tickner has compiled an ERA of 3.99 with a 5-9 mark over 17 starts. He has 74 strikeouts in 106 innings and has held opponents to a .263 batting average.

Kamphuis Tosses Shutout Against Brownstones
Saturday, July 16th, 2118: Noblesville pitcher Timo Kamphuis blanked the Brooklyn Brownstones 8-0, tossing a 1-hitter while issuing no walks and collecting 5 strikeouts.

After his sharp shutout performance, he said that he gives a lot of the credit to his batterymate. "Me and him are just locked in out there. He's so great at having a feel for hitters. I couldn't do what I'm doing without him."

So far this season Kamphuis has a record of 6-4 with 68 strikeouts and 42 walks in 117.2 innings and a 3.29 ERA.

Reliever Johnson Chosen July's Best in RL
Monday, August 1st, 2118: Will Johnson is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Republic League Pitcher of the Month for July.

He made no relief appearances for Ann Arbor last month, throwing 42.2 innings and collecting no saves, a 5-1 record, 23 strikeouts and a 2.74 ERA.

This season Johnson has made no relief appearances with no saves. His won-lost record is 9-10 with a 3.84 ERA.


CL Top Pitcher for July Picked
Monday, August 1st, 2118: This month when the Tokyo manager wrote the name "Lizaraga" on the lineup card, he was pretty confident that he would get a good start out of him. Outing after outing in July Esteban Lizaraga took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 4-0 mark and 0.30 ERA in 4 starts, piling up 30 innings and 20 strikeouts and holding opposing teams to a .186 average.

For his superb performance Lizaraga was named the Continental League Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

This season Lizaraga has compiled a 13-5 mark with a 3.04 ERA.

July's Premier Batter Announced
Monday, August 1st, 2118: July's Republic League Batter of the Month trophy was claimed by catcher Benjamin Rainey of the Chico Rebels.

Last month he compiled a .361 batting average with 8 home runs, 19 RBIs, 16 runs scored and a .396 on-base percentage.

In his season totals Rainey has 24 home runs and a .308 batting average.


Craig Claims CL Batter of the Month Award
Monday, August 1st, 2118: Carl Craig mauled enemy pitching all month long as he cruised to the Continental League Batter of the Month title.

Craig batted .341 with 5 home runs, 15 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Rookie of the Month Won by Reid
Monday, August 1st, 2118: Jerry Reid might not have fully digested the impact of winning July's Republic League Rookie of the Month award when he got the news earlier today, but the 25-year-old quickly learned that he was no longer your typical rookie.

Posting a mark of 4-0 won-lost record will do that. In 5 starts he tossed 35 innings with 22 strikeouts and a 1.80 ERA. Opposing teams hit .218 against him during the month.

Not bad for a first-year man.

In 20 starts this season Reid has crafted a 8-4 record with a 3.55 ERA.


Meléndez Snags Rookie of Month Trophy
Monday, August 1st, 2118: Vincente Meléndez is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the Napa Valley hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .302 average with 29 hits, 6 home runs and 18 RBIs.

So far this year Meléndez is batting .260 with 22 home runs.

Thursday, September 1st, 2118: There was nobody finer on the mound in August and Pepe Pérez cruised to the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award today.

He was 5-1 with a 2.45 ERA while piling up 19 strikeouts in 44 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .206 batting average.

This season-to-date Pérez has 11 wins and 6 losses and a 3.00 ERA.

Tokyo Starter Named CL's Premier Pitcher
Thursday, September 1st, 2118: This month when the Tokyo manager wrote the name "Gou" on the lineup card, he was pretty confident that he would get a good start out of him. Outing after outing in August Qin-shu Gou took command and usually got the win.

He dominated with a 5-0 mark and 1.58 ERA in 7 starts, piling up 40 innings and 21 strikeouts and holding opposing teams to a .265 average.

For his superb performance Gou was named the Continental League Pitcher of the Month by the baseball writers.

So far this year Gou has compiled a 13-5 record with a 2.45 ERA.

August's Best RL Hitter is Kuei-lin Guao
Thursday, September 1st, 2118: August's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Republic League. This month's trophy was presented to the Hartford left fielder, Kuei-lin Guao.

He starred by hitting .366 with a .437 on-base percentage, totaled 41 hits in 112 at-bats, 15 home runs, 37 RBIs and scored 34 runs.

So far this season Guao has hit .252 with 29 home runs, 71 RBIs and and scored 87 times.


Craig CL Outstanding Batter of the Month
Thursday, September 1st, 2118: Carl Craig was at the top of the hit parade in the Continental League throughout August. For the outstanding month, the talented Tokyo second baseman was chosen the Batter of the Month.

He compiled a .398 average with 41 hits, 8 home runs, 31 RBIs and 32 runs scored.

In 130 games this season Craig has batted at a .351 pace with 168 hits and 32 home runs.

Cerda Named RL's Best Rookie
Thursday, September 1st, 2118: He's only in his debut season, but Jorge Cerda performed more like a veteran on the hill for the Chico Rebels and walked away with August's Republic League Rookie of the Month Award in the process.

Last month this young hurler recorded 4 wins and 1 loss in 5 starts. He threw 31.2 innings, giving up 17 walks, fanning 25 and compiling a 4.55 ERA.

Cerda has made 25 starts so far this year and put up a 11-9 won-lost record with a 4.74 ERA. In 138.2 innings he has allowed 131 hits, walked 88 and struck out 119.



Greer Hauls in August's Best Rookie Award
Thursday, September 1st, 2118: In August, Ryan Greer had an exceptional month at the plate and hit his way to the Continental League Rookie of the Month award.

Last month the 28-year-old Baltimore right fielder played in 24 games and hit .313 with 2 doubles, 1 triple and 7 home runs. Greer also scored 17 times and drove in 19 runs.

Thus far this year Greer has hit .236 with 14 home runs and 64 RBIs.

Saturday, October 1st, 2118: The Pitcher of the Month has been chosen and the Republic League trophy went to Colorado hurler, Iván Costello.

During the month, Costello was impressive with a 2.48 ERA and 5 wins and no losses. In 40 innings he struck out 26 and gave up 37 hits and 3 walks.

Saturday, October 1st, 2118: On the heels of a very productive September, Jorge Franco received Republic League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested left fielder hit .360 for the Toronto Marlboros and racked up 11 home runs, 33 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

For the season Franco has hit .321 with 31 home runs and 138 RBIs. He has played in 152 games and scored 119 times.


September's Best Batter Announced
Saturday, October 1st, 2118: The Continental League has selected its Hitter of the Month for September and the honor went to Eduardo Zambrano, Brooklyn's fine first baseman.

Zambrano was selected after batting .340, hitting 7 home runs, scoring 17 runs and driving in 23.

This year Zambrano is batting .283 with 169 hits, 28 home runs, 111 RBIs, 51 walks, .347 OBP and has scored 84 runs.

Saturday, October 1st, 2118: Yes, Iván Costello is just a rookie. But he is a special rookie. Today the 24-year-old Colorado starter was awarded the Republic League Rookie of the Month trophy for his standout performance in September.

He dominated the rookie class, registering 5 wins and no losses in 5 starts with 26 strikeouts in 40 innings and a 2.48 ERA.

King Breezes to Shutout Victory
Saturday, October 1st, 2118: After his 2-0 shutout win against the Rancheros, Matt King said, "I went out there to try and eat up innings and help out our bullpen. I felt I had my good stuff... and it turned out my command was solid and my breaking balls were good."

They were better than good as the Rebels pitcher put up 13 strikeouts, surrendered 1 walk, allowed 2 hits and kept the bullpen phone quiet all day long.
