QB Mentoring

Hi all,

I have looked for this info but I can’t find it. Regarding development/mentoring of a young QB I have a couple of questions.

1. Does the mentor QB need to be on the active roster to give benefit?
2. How many years does a young QB benefit from mentoring?
3. What exactly is the benefit of having a mentor QB?
4. Is it only QBs that say ‘mentor’ that have the effect of mentoring?
5. Can you put a QB in injured reserve and still get the mentor benefit?

I think that covers it. Thanks.

As far as I know:
1. no, mentor doesn't have to be active. But this should only be an issue if you're keeping more than 3 QB on roster. Not sure if it still works if he's on IR, though. The to-be-mentored players do need to be active.
2. common assumpiton is that it only works in years 1, 2 and 3
3. the mentor accelerates the improvement of the younger player, in effect the player reaches his potential earlier
4. this works for every position group, a RB mentor helps young RB develop, a mentor WR does it for young WR, etc.
5. the to-be-mentored QB has to be active to have an effect. what works for the mentor I'm not sure about, he's still mentoring when inactive, but what happens on IR is something I'm not sure how it works.

Does bring up some more interesting questions about mentors, though.

1) Disgruntled mentors. My own theory is that a player's happiness is only reflected in their likelihood of resigning and has no effect on play/mentor/chemistry status. But I haven't tested this out.

2) Injured reserve mentors. IRL these guys can still be around the team...not sure, I always thought this didn't affect mentoring but again, no hard numbers.

I did not realize that the mentee had to be active for it to take effect; thanks.
