Just back from our weeklong summer vacation to Hershey, Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach with a variety of thoughts:

- To the motorcyclist popping a wheelie on US 15 north in Maryland at 60+, I would have laughed if you would have wiped out. I might even have felt bad at laughing, maybe.
- Same to two kids that went flying past us running and tried to stop on the wet pebble downhill walkway at Busch Gardens.
- How do you have a hotel on the beach and NOT provide a way to wash the sand off before re-entering the hotel? I get that Virginia Beach provides these as well off the boardwalk, but they are at the public entrances to the beach, and the foot wash near our hotel was broken. We either had to walk up the beach a ways, or do what everyone else did and wash the sand off in the hotel pool. Ugh.
- Maybe it's that we usually go to the beach in the Fall when crowds die down, but I couldn't believe how much little trash bits were on the beach at Virginia Beach. Bottle caps (metal and plastic), cigarette butts, and the like. Maybe it's having a boardwalk, but I don't remember seeing anything like this on the beaches in Wilmington.
- Hershey is really commercializing the park. Apparently there is now a Hershey Museum, and all of the Hershey history has been pulled out of the ride at Chocolate World and into there. Plus the ride had the sound effects loud and the narration quiet, so we could barely hear. The kids had fun in the park, but boy do I miss my childhood days when you got to tour the actual factory.
- Don't eat at the 21st Street Grill in Virginia Beach. We watched an employee cut raw chicken right next to the fixings bar they use for the sandwiches, drape the knife used across the tomatoes, work the register without washing her hands, and carry the bucket of raw chicken across the restaurant. They need some basic sanitation training there. Luckily we all made it back without getting sick.
- We couldn't see the Giovanni's kitchen, but the food was excellent.
- Loved watching F-18s constantly running landing patterns across the beach. I never got tired of that.
- The Virginia Beach Aquarium is expensive and not well laid out. The exhibits were good, but they need a loop, rather than an out-and-back, layout to improve flow. It was pretty crowded trying to push through people to get from the end to the exit. The creek boat tour was nice and relaxing, though. We never got over to their second building (15 minute walk or drive up the road and park again).

We had a great time overall.

Golfed for the first time yesterday on a real 18-hole course. I had only been on a driving range a couple of times, and had one trip to a 9-hole par three.

Played legit rules with penalty strokes and no do-overs - shot a 192. I bet I'll do better next time.

Curious as to how long your round was?

Ha, close to 4 1/2 hours, but we spent a lot of time waiting for the 4-some in front of us (I was in a 2-some). My obscenely-poor score actually didn't slow us down very much, there were a lot of times I'd hit the ball 10 feet, and then I'd just walk up and hack at it again. I couldn't hit it far enough to say, spend time looking for it behind the green. It was still fun though, and there were a handful of times when I had a shot that very much resembled a golf shot.

Edit: Or if you mean course length, it was 6,691 yards, par 72.

The Curious Case of Chavis Carter - NYTimes.com

Filed under things that are completely impossible.

I really hope this isn't a case of two police offers essentially committing murder, but it seems rather implausible that they wouldn't find a gun on two searches and that a man, handcuffed behind his back would be able to retrieve the gun and shoot himself in the temple.

Please Michael Jordan, for the love of god, stop doing Hanes commercials (just saw the new one where he burns a talking tag from pants on a bbq grill. I wish I was making this up) You can't need the money...if you do, I will offer you a 20, heck I will offer my life savings. These commercials are that bad.

Google offered an online class. As someone who teaches students how to search I'm already quite proficient but still thought it was a good process to go through. I recommend trying each activity and if you don't know how to do something to watch the video.

So, apparently I have to watch my 5 year old more closely than I thought.
Setting :
Jake strolls upstairs, all decked out in his uber cool Thor helmet and hammer - ready to throw down some mack-daddy fly game.
Conversation :
Jake : Ok, so mom. What's up ? Wanna get married ?
Lisa : Uh, I'm already married to your daddy.
Jake : Oh, no problem with that. I have a computer - I can just delete that (starts typing on his invisible computer).
Lisa : lol, uh.. ok.
Jake : Yeah .. well, just don't be late - it's tomorrow.

Sometimes, during the day, I don't see any posts for a long time. For instance, right now, there haven't been any new posts in over 30 minutes. Could that really be the case?

That and being reminded this morning that Michael Powell breaking Bob Beamon's record happened 21 freaking years ago is only adding to my rapidly growing pile of "I'm getting old." The other recent revelation was the fact that kids that were born the year I graduated high school are themselves graduating high school now.

You should probably fire back an email and copy George's secretary: "Would like to schedule 3hr lunch with George. See him at noon. Bye!"

Tempting for sure. Though I did kind of sort of have breakfast with Seth Green. More like a conversation while in the cafeteria while waiting for our food.

Now that could cause all kinds of trouble. Like waking up in the middle of getting raped by a 65 year old man in a bunny suit, with a bottle of Jack in one hand and a bag of Funyuns in the other. Or am I just over thinking this?

There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge.

On this subject I do not wish to think, or speak, or write, with moderation. No! no! Tell a man whose house is on fire, to give a moderate alarm; tell him to moderately rescue his wife from the hands of the ravisher; tell the mother to gradually extricate her babe from the fire into which it has fallen; but urge me not to use moderation in a cause like the present. I am in earnest--I will not equivocate--I will not excuse--I will not retreat a single inch-- AND I WILL BE HEARD!!!

You certainly don't want to fixate on that kind of anxiety before doing so, as you'd probably guarantee yourself a no-fun time. Find someone else with some good stories to dull your worries. I had dozens of fun times with no bad trips, back in the day, but that said pretty much all halucinogens come with a comedown that can last for a while, and heighten depression or anxiety, and if that part doesn't sound like something you can/want to deal with as well, then don't bother.

+1

Going into it with a negative mindset guarantees a bad trip.
