I wonder what's broken then. I tried from home as well and it can't find an updated file either. Alas, I may get to try the file download from the site, but maybe not. No biggie.

Have you grabbed the file since DC fixed it early in the week? If not, you'll need to download from the website probably to get your settings correct |

I grabbed that when it first came home both places, and it all worked fine earlier. Just not working today for some reason.

Sad news out of Pirates camp. For the first time since 1912, OF Edd Roush will not be starting for the Pirates. At the age of 34, Edd just doesnt have the skills to play in the OF anymore, and will come in to pinch hit whenever he is called upon. This is the last year of his contract and the Pirates organization has already let him know that he will not be resigned. Edd holds pretty much every batting record for the Pirates, and was a key player in helping the Pirates make it to the playoffs 8 years in a row. His number will be retired after this season.

Yankees are where they were last year. Should be playoff caliber, but the ball didn't bounce our way last year.

lets see who will make the 1928 playoffs. I like the the whales pitching, so i'm sticking with them to make it once again to the playoffs. I think the Red Sox have enough weapons to make it back also. In the NL I'm going to go with the Cardinals and the Phillies.

too busy this weekend for me, and it wouldn't matter much in the standings.
I am a .500 team right now, so sim without me, until I can spend some more FA dollars. ![]()

Speaking of changes, should I lower the financial coefficient here in half. In other words, everything would be halved. Nothing would change otherwise, it would be a mostly cosmetic difference.
Anything people are thinking about that would make this league more immersive? I mean, is everyone plugged in and headed towards another bunch of years or are we a comet? I've been wondering it for a bit and I guess I'd like some feedback on this -- any feedback is welcomed -- as it'd be good to know what ideas (if any) folks have about the way this league ought to progress. I've been pretty steady with things on purpose, but it'd be good to hear since we sort of just hum along and mind our business most times. Lemme know. Meanwhile, wild card playoff time. |

We'll run the playoffs tomorrow night, the deadline will be 11pm eastern (and no, I won't forgot and run them early this time..) and then we'll go back to the regular schedule on Tuesday, etc.

Yay for finishing 3rd. Which doesn't get me in the playoffs and gets me one of the worst draft picks.

Unless you have time to post all the news stuff Alan does during a season, half of which I don't usually have any time to read anyway, I'd say no. I'm enjoying watching as I go along. I'm not looking to bail.

From worst to worst!
Why do I always feel a glimmer of hope when I export only to get squashed like a bug? FWIW I am here until the comet burns up. And I don't think too many changes are needed.

I am here, just had a super busy weekend, can't remember if I exported or not.
I still can't figure out who will pitch well, outside of Satch, and I missed out on him by a tie-break. ![]()

I'm good. Money seems a little free and easy but I think its probably to the good to be able to keep any of our historical favorites that fall into our clutches.

Babe Ruth, at the age of 33, has surpassed his real life home run total with 739. FOOL-H Babe is obviously better then the real Babe, right....
At this point, FOOL Babe has played 2502 games, real Babe retired after 2503 games which include 148 starts at Pitcher. Real Babe finished with 714 HR's, but the real difference is at bats. FOOL Babe has about 1000 more AB's then the real Babe, and only 25 more home runs. Real Babe also has 30 more career rbi's. As good as FOOL-H Babe Ruth has been, and he's been amazing, he's still not as good as the real Babe Ruth. Just some insight into how good he really was.

I think I honestly have been in a half-hearted rut with this league for a bit. If I had to put a finger exactly on why, here are the things that I think are the worst for me probably. (Some of which you likely couldn't do anything about just because of the Historical aspect). - The only time there seem to be good free agents in the pool is usually due to owner neglect. An inactive team or AI controlled team forgetting to re-sign a stud player. Most active teams don't have problems locking up all great players forever really (other than the rare dynasties that simply can't lock up everyone). This leaves 2 stages of the week being rather uneventful, or unexciting to me. Might be a sign of the player demands being set too small and a slight increase being needed (perhaps more than slight increase for the top player tiers). - The change to no minor league really bugs me. The reserve roster is no fun, doesn't work well and completely removes any ability to interact with half of my players, or "shape/model" players in a way I like. I don't like constantly harping on points that others may disagree with me on, since I know it is hard to please everyone, but since you asked for feedback, that is mine. I really have seen very little benefit from going to the reserve rosters, it has created worse development issues than the move was to fix. Plus it has added a few exploitative abilities that a crafty owner likely could use in regards to contract management of younger players. - Shallow draft pools for the most part. Obviously this isn't something we can do much about, but since we are in the time period where there simply were less teams, it means less players as well. I assume eventually this will get better into the 1960s, but I haven't had a draft pick above 8th in about 20 seasons and thus don't remember the last time I actually was excited about the draft. Edit: I don't know if the financial coefficient is something that even registers a blip with me. I'm fine with the salaries being offered. I actually try to avoid OOTP's financial stuff for any joy of immersion when possible anyways. So that is likely a change that wouldn't really effect me too much. Regarding what Greg mentioned about the news stories, I'm ok with whatever level you feel you have the time to do. What I enjoy doing is looking through for the players I am most interested in, the only thing there that could help me is if there is a bit more seperation between the stories or titles are bolded. Sometimes 3-4 of them together get a little hard to read, but not a big thing for me at all honestly. Hmm, off the top of my head those are the main things I think bugging me or keeping me from really getting into stuff very well. Maybe there is more, but not that I can think of without more effort ![]() Last edited by Alan T : 02-22-2010 at 06:27 AM. |
