If extensions are tomorrow, is FA bidding sim Monday now?
And can we bid on existing FAs during the extension period? Will there be a new crop of players showing up sometime? TIA--Tim

Yeah, given the short time, I think it's probably best to give folks the evening to look at their extensions. I'm not sure if it will stay this way, or if from now on y'all would like to see the season and playoffs all done late Friday or early Saturday so we can do the FA sim on Sunday night.
This is a work in progress, and I welcome your opinions. But yes, for this week, the FA sim is Monday. It is currently the off-season, so you can sign current free agents during the extension period. New players enter the FA system as soon as the season is over, it looks like. There are currently 44 players present, including 3 with 5-star potential, one with 3, and and 4 with 2. Do let me know how you'd like to see the extensions/FA sims working in the future. ![]() |

This is not posted to cause drama, its just factual.
I have been analyzing the league, obviously with an eye on my own situation. With the glaring exception of Justin Brewer, the "mendoza line" for contact rating is 55. Below this, there is a high probability of failure at the plate, and a batting average below .250 and a VORP which is negative. Among the negative VORP guys, only one sticks out as a slumper (Harry Brown). Among current free agents, ONE has potential to someday have contact above 55. Among potential free agents, 4 such players exist, one is 36 yo so has no likelihood that he will achieve the potential, he is obviously declining from his peak. It is also unlikely that any of those players will hit free agency anyway, unless the AI has them or a human player forgets to export. On my roster, I currently have 1 player who has a contact of 54 but potential is 51, and 3 players total with potential above 54. 2 AI teams are by far the most stacked with hitting potential, while the Outlaws are in as untenable position as I am hitting wise, nearly. Considering the trading activity in the league week 1, and 38% AI ownership, trading is not the route to improvement. With no draft, the awful teams have a 1 in 8 shot at any piece that might someday improve their team, and in this "draft class" there is exactly one such player. Star ratings be damned, the production numbers say otherwise. 3 teams had team ba in the 260s, 3 in the 240s and 2 below 230. Standings and post season results pretty much corresponded. I'm not suggesting that I'm ready to abandon the league or anything, yet. But I do think we need to take a close look at the model and see what we need to tweak to offer some hope to me and the Outlaws, especially, but I think the Anglers aren't exactly "championship driven" for a while either. It doesn't strike me as fun to face at least 10 weeks of losing and losing hard before I can climb to mediocrity. I don't know enough about the ins and outs of OOTP for things like player creation modifiers to have any intelligent suggestions yet.

I'd like to see a short sim on Saturday morning then a late deadline Saturday night extension period so we can wrap up season proceedings during the week.
Also, maybe we should inject a SMALL bit of better talent in the league. Just don't go FOOL crazy.

Well crapola. I just noticed that my 6 man rotation experiment failed, because my 6th guy never started. I set the rotation size to 6, but set it to "start highest rested player" so he didn't throw a single pitch all season, and he was one of my actually good looking pitchers. Oh well

Yeah I noticed that in my analysis, he was among the higher rated starters and only showed up when I lifted the minmum IP filter.

Absolutely no worries about drama, Tasan. I appreciate the input.
I was wanting to have a look at the new FA pool and see what the talent looked like, but I've been busy watching the Cubs finish their choke-job. ![]() This may well be something we should/can address. I'd be interested in hearing what DC, in particular, thinks. |

Hey can we do something about cash? I have no money at all, but was a top team in the league. There are a couple of other teams with very little to no money as well.

I'm all for improving the creation modifiers. I could see bumping them to 1.200 to get things a bit better. Or something like that. I'm all for doing something to make things more interesting, of course. |

Ok. Rather than tweak the modifiers, I spiced up the free agent pool with another 20 players of various young ages. It looks like there's a little more choice in there now. Maybe this will let us seed some more players without getting too much talent inflation going. If that works out, perhaps we can just increase the number of FAs that get created to give us some more choice.
I have also increased the average ticket price in the league to $4.50, and manually brought up everyone's gate prices to match. Hopefully this should increase the cash input available to bring it closer into line with salaries. I went ahead and reset everyone to having $1,000,000, the maxiumum carryover, on hand. There's a new file up with these changes and the new FA pool. Have a look and let me know if you think this looks better. |

Righto! File is posted. Free agency has arrived. Deadline for FA offers is 10pm tomorrow. We will then sim to the day before opening day, and you'll have the week to trade.
I suspect I'm going to be flinging out some offers this year. Need to work on my hitting! |

Hey kaos, I'm pretty sure you have a setting issue with the AIs and their teams, unless you are letting them manage all year on purpose. Enrique Aguilar, who I was looking at b/c he has the highest power on the FA list, was traded between Bozeman and Fortuna midseason. It was a pretty wack deal for Fortuna too.

You just have to turn off trading after we're done before the season starts to kill that off, is all. And to prevent AI changes from all teams after the season starts, too.

File is up. HTML is updated. It's the day before opening day. Next deadline is Friday night. Get your lineups in order!
Hmm. An interesting thought occurs... we had originally planned to make Friday the trade and pre-season deadline. But that means that if people make trades for players they want to start, they'd need another sim prepared. I'm hesitant to expand the sim schedule, but I don't want to discourage trading, either. I welcome all thoughts on how to handle this. (Boy, this league is madness.) |

That does need to be sorted. Otherwise, already small trading will be reduced to pointlessness.
I would suggest you sim everything on Saturday, and upload a file late friday when most of us are around to watch FOOL's season play out anyway.

Actually, I'm honestly not sure about the size of the secondary roster. I don't much run leagues without minors. I *think* it's unlimited, but I'm not sure. Could DC or someone clarify?

May 14th:
The Harwinton Hurlers and their fans had a lot to celebrate today as 33-year-old hurler Foster Davis no-hit the Traverse City Parasites 9-0 at Black Flies Ballpark. "He mixed his pitches well, hit his spots... and got some help from above," said his pitching coach. "Foster really took it to another level today." On his record-setting day Davis had 3 strikeouts and 2 walks. His manager added, "I don't remember a better pitched game. And how about our defense, too. We played some good "D" today." On his stats sheet this season Davis shows a 4-4 record, 9 starts, 50.1 innings, 26 strikeouts and a 4.83 ERA.
