FOFC POLL - Historical Date/Event Draft
After what seemed like an eternity, the FOFC draft is done and now it is time to vote. (No wonder Maple Leafs doesn't do more of these... they are a fair amount of work. Fun but, work....)
The initial intent was to have an events draft based around dates. Not a true 'date draft' but, rather an events draft based around the confinements of an ever shrinking draft pool of dates. So, it is up to you to vote for who had the best overall draft be it by the best collection of dates, best event, combination or just rolling a d10... Voting will run for 7 days. just voted for brother bucc in the draft (go figure). gotta say it was
close. it was a three way tie until the potluck put him over. here are my thoughts: tread gets sports because cal breaking the record was a date people knew and were looking forward to for years Maple gets Military Event, "day that will live..." Tread gets natural disaster, bias, and sf quake seems the only date that was ever remembered/celebrated Bucc gets entertainment, perfect match between day and event. NTN gets science, moon landing was a day everyone celebrated. Plus it's the most fantastic. Maple get fiction. Most popular book title date ever. Plus, that's my favorite opening line. Radi gets TV. It was a football game that changed the future of TV and sports. rest seemed to be more of dates celebrating a past greatness. Bar gets politics, obvious. Bucc get birthday, more i think about it, that's the best choice in the draft. 19th cen was hard. I think mustang's mexico independence is the most important/remembered, just not in the u.s. i picked gold. but could be convinced to go with railroad, l. purchase, or lincoln's assignation. Path got pre-17. Martin luther thing was the best single historical moment. Bucc's is good, but the day the creed was accepted, june 19, is more important so it was a 3 way tie between tread, maple, and bucc. bucc's use of popular holiday and historical event makes thanksgiving easily better than the rest. this was fun |

In line with what I interpreted as the original nominal notion behind this draft, I tried to give credit for events that are closely associated with the date in question -- otherwise this is nothing more than an event draft as far as I can tell. And, since this only captured my interest in passing, I assigned point values in an extremely arbitrary fashion similar to what you might have seen in the original version of Whose Line Is It Anyway.
That less than scientific fashion left me with the following order of preference and the items that scored points. 1) Radii - for JFK & WS earthquake 2) Barkeep - for July 4th and Beatles T3) Treadwell - for D-Day, Ripken, and Roe v Wade T3) NTNDeacon - for Moon, GWTW, and Challenger T5) MapleLeafs - for Pearl & Berlin Wall T5) Path12 - for 9/11 T7) Mustang - for Katrina, V-E Day, and Trinity T7) NeonChaos - for Hiroshima, JR, and Gettysburg T9) Bucc - for MASH and Lincoln T9) LarryMcg - for O.J. and Columbus
