need some prayers - Final Update :) it's good news

my 24-year old cousin who is supposed to get married on Nov. 10th is in the hospital in Dallas. She has something called Necrotizing fasciitis (this link gives a little more detail www.nnff.org). It's basically a flesh eating bacteria. She went to Dallas for a job interview and is now in the hospital there.

She has had 4 surgeries since the 12th and will need more for sure. At this point the wedding is up in the air, but that isn't the important part. Please pray for her tonight it has been a struggle at this point for her.

Thanks

got an update...please keep the thoughts & prayers coming.

"They think they have identified the bacteria - phyadermagangliosis - . It is a form of gangrene but I cannot get google to give me any information probably because I am not spelling it right. Anyway, they started her on some steroids last night and they seem to be improving the situation. They took her into surgery this morning but didn't have to cut away as much tissue as they have been doing and they aren't going to do a surgery tomorrow, they want to give it 48 hours between the surgeries. So, that seems to be another plus. There is a possibility she will have one or two blood transfusions today as they are trying to get some healthy blood going through her body. Her temperature was down to 98 this morning and they are going to try and remove the breathing tubes today. It seems the Dr's are talking in a more positive tone today, praises to God for all he has done. Thanks for all you are doing and keep it up."

any help on the spelling would be appriciated

thanks again.

FWIW, this should serve as a reminder for everyone out there to GIVE BLOOD when/if you are able to do so. Thanks!

things are starting to look up here's the last 2 days of updates...thanks again everyone...keeps the positive thoughts coming

Saturday, Oct 20
I just talked to her grandma and they took out the breathing tubes late yesterday afternoon, but kept her slightly sedated so she could rest. This morning, though, she seemed bright and alert, smiling as Grandma came into the room. She thought she had only been in the hospital for 2 days and was surprised it had been 7. When her fiance came in she smiled and cried as she is still trying to understand all that has been going on. His folks are going to drive him home to Phoenix Sunday and her dad is going to stay until Tuesday then head home. Her mom and grandma will continue to stay with her sister, who lives about an hour from the hospital, until she is well enough to travel. Please continue to pray for her healing and for all the travel her family will be doing.

and one from today from her dad, my uncle

Her color and spirit was improving by the hour as the sedative wore off during the day yesterday. The Dr. came in to see her and gave her a full nurse's briefing on the treatments and medications. One blood pressure medication we thought nothing about, got a calm "hmmmm I was pretty bad off for a while..." out of Her.
While on the sedative, she frequently mentioned how excited she was about the wedding and we were so worried about how she would do in the healing process if she knew she would not be out of the hospital before the wedding.
All it took was a "you won't be doing any wedding" from the doctor for her to calmly say to her fiance that she was sorry this infection had called off the wedding. He told her she couldn't get rid of him that easy and the wedding was only being postponed. Got another smile from her on that one.
I've decided that any bad news I ever want to give her needs to be delivered by a doctor, she takes it far better than from a doctor than from any of us, couldn't help but snicker at her on this one.
She is anxious to learn more about the treatments ahead and get this done and behind her. I gotta run, we are going to go see her before her 10am dressing change. At some point she was going to get out of bed and sit in a chair and walk if up to it. Did not hear if she did it between visits yesterday, so hope to see how that develops today.
Thanks for all the prayers, we would not be seeing this kind of rapid progress without the prayers, and her faith and will.

wanted to give another update to this from my aunt

"First our whole family wants to thank everyone for their prayers,
concerns and keeping up with Carla's progress. Carla is doing
wonderful. They have moved her to a regular room and will be
redressing her sores only twice a week now. The Dr's are so pleased
with her progress, they will be doing these procedures in her room.
Lance, Carla's fiancee, was able to go to Ft Worth this past weekend
and it really lifted her spirits to have him there. They were able to
do some discussing about the wedding and are hopeful to have it in
March. Carla's mom and grandma are thinking about coming home in
about 2 weeks, even though Carla will still have to be there for
additional care, it should all work out just fine. This will be the
last of my updates, again thanks for everything. Always remember God
is at the center of all our blessings."

thanks again FOFC!!!!
