I was originally planning on highlighting the interesting draft analysis work that was being done, but Skydog already highlighted that in the "Thread of the Week." So, I want to focus on WR ratings today and what to look for in a WR and to clarify the various ratings.

Some of the ratings are obvious such as avoid drops. However, there is frequently confusion about "Getting Downfield" versus "Big Play Receiving." Quiksand says it best in the "WR's" thread: In FOF, "getting downfield" essentially measures a player's ability to get yards after the catch. "Big Play Receiving" on the other hand is important for deep balls, along with the "adjust to ball" attribute.

Route Running is another rating that is sometimes misunderstood. Route Running details how crisply a player runs their route which seems elementary enough. However, what the novice FOF player might not realize is that Route Running appears to be an important factor in how often a QB throws to that particular receiver. Based on anecdotal evidence, I don't believe the effect is quite as strong as FOF 2004, but this attribute still appears to strongly influence how often a receiver is thrown to. Of course, this means that you want your best receiver to have a high route running attribute. However, there are people who also believe that it is just as important that your weaker receivers don't have a high route running skill so they don't get too many passes thrown their way that would be better served going to your top receiver. This is a topic that has been discussed a few different times, but the most recent discussion on this topic can be found here:

If you're copying from Word (or any other Microsoft product), disable smilies before posting it.
