Since everyone is jumping at the chance, I'll cautiously step my toe up to the line. I would love to be the webmaster for the league. Having said that, I have to admit that as a league I would start it as a trial basis. Sometimes I get so swamped with life/etc that things can fall to the wayside. Having said that, with Wade being actively involved I don't think he would let that happen. My proposal would be this: At least get an initial site from me before you sign on the dotted line. I would love to put together all of the dynamic stuff that I know some leagues have, and it would give me a good chance to dig into a programming language that I'm trying to start using (Ruby). I have an account that allows me 200GB of storage, including MySQL databases and unlimited domains. I am more than willing to put the site there, and give FTP/etc access to anyone that would require it so you know something can go up on short notice, even if I'm unavailable. It also has "One-click install" of phpBB.

Anyway, if one of you would rather do it because you know you're more reliable, then go for it. I'm more than willing to do what I can, but I don't want to end up letting you down. That's my only reason for not jumping in head first.

Not sure how big the league files are gonna be, but how much in the way of transfer traffic are you allowed each month? I have 30TB allotted to me with my account, and the BBCF college league uses 8 to 10GB per month. Which after editing isn't that much.

edit: nevermind, I was off by a factor of 1000 on my bandwidth calc....

If he wants to give this a try, I'm all for it as well.

I'm definitely down for Doug being the webmaster. Very gracious of him to volunteer.

If bandwidth becomes a problem with file sizes, I imagine we could always use your space for files and his server space cause of Ruby?

Doug,

Just playing devil's advocate -- Will the use of Ruby preclude someone else taking over if your situation should change?

The quick answer: yes.

Having said that, anything could preclude someone else using it. But your point is that if I used php more people are familiar with it. That is a very good point, and I could try to use php, but I haven't used it in years and don't plan to use it for anything else, so I'd be less gung-ho. However, that is definitely something to consider. If it's a huge concern I can go for it with php instead.

He obviously knows what he's talking about (I got lost at php) so I think it's a great idea.

I would imagine that when you're talking about some of this stuff that someone else jumping in is a problem no matter what when you get past .html. The IHOF site is done in php, but I would imagine that someone else coming in and trying to make chagnes, etc. would have no chance at it at this stage anyways unless VPI is taking TONS of time documenting his code. So, I guess what I'm saying is that if we're talking about going above and beyond just the html, this is an obstacle we face no matter who is doing it or what code they are using.

Quite serious. As I stated in the other thread, I was messing with it this weekend on the flight home from Nashville. Nothing major done, but I'm definitely in for it. It looks like you guys are starting the season in 10-15 days. I don't know what I can get done by then, but I will do my best to have something.

Keep in mind that FOF2K7 does provide an HTML output of stats/rosters/a who bunch of other little goodies/, etc.

I know that you don't have the game yet, but maybe Wade can send you an example of what is generated in-game (to make your life a little bit easier)

http://thesuperleague.net/fofsite/2006standings.html

You can get to all of the game output from here - this is a 2k7 league that has already started.

I think what we'd be looking for in 10-15 days as a minimum/hopeful would be:

Forum
Place to upload files

I think that's the bare minimum to get the league up and running. If we had a frontpage where we could list owners etc that would be good - but I think something that if push came to shove we could wait for..

Can anyone think of anything else we'd need for a bare minimum?

Maybe we should put together some sort of list with features and prioritise the stuff. (stuff like access to the box scores - which come in the HTML export now) and whatnot.

As a bare minimum a forum, upload and download feature are probably all that's necessary.

Echoing others, all I think we need from the outset is just a forum and place to upload/download files.

I started the forum install process and push comes to shove we can just setup FTP as the upload process for now.

I already asked Wade for this since he is a Project Manager by trade. I suppose a group effort would be better, though.

n00b... ... I would not anticipate any changes to the .html output any time soon.

I think you will be surprised at the umm... lack of technical accumen amongst FOF leagues as a whole. That being said, I think Jim built some sort of FTP Tool that is available on his website, I'll check.

I would just like to see up-to-date tags (no FONT tag), lowercased tags, and no styles within the html, only class="" tags so that it can all be modified via a stylesheet.

Probably... But if I don't get an upload form before then...

For example, some people apparently aren't aware that you don't need to download an FTP tool to use FTP sites. You can just use IE (or Firefox, with the appropriate extensions.)
