100M Champion Gaitlin avoids lifetime drugs ban..

By agreeing to provide information about his coach.

He will get an 8 year ban instead (which is pretty much a life time ban, he'd be 32 when it's over)

World and Olympic 100m champion Justin Gatlin could escape a lifetime ban if he testifies against his coach, the US Anti-Doping Agency has said.

The American, 24, is facing a life ban following a second positive drugs test.

But Usada said that ban could be reduced to eight years if Gatlin provided information in its case against his coach Trevor Graham.

Usada and athletics' governing body are investigating Graham, several of whose athletes have received drugs bans.

Graham denies direct knowledge or involvement in drugs use. He said Gatlin was "spiked" by a massage therapist who rubbed testosterone cream on his legs without his knowledge.

32 isn't completely out of question for a sprinter, if he agrees to this he will salvage his career providing he stays in shape etc. Of course, whether he would have the motivation to do so is another matter.

this is the exact equivalent to a lifetime ban, for a spinter.
You just don't "work to stay in world class shape" during 8 years...for nothing and all of a sudden, at age 32, pop up to compete against the best 24-27 year old world sprinters.

It's over.

Well, Marion Jones is over 30 and she just suddenly started beating younger runners again recently after several years of being a non-factor, for no apparent reason other than sheer determination and force of will.
