'Top 25' list details students' looks, bodies

This story has been front page news in Pittsburgh the last 2 days...

Original Wednesday article, "breaking" the story--
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06116/685098-55.stm

Thursday, follow-up article--

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06117/685523-55.stm

Am I alone in thinking they are making WAY too big of a deal about this?
Is it tasteless/disgusting? Sure. But how is it criminal?
Insensitivity is not a crime.

I do agree that we as a society have become overly sensitive and this is another example of that.

However if I saw something to the effect that my daughter was a whore, and these are the things these guys wanted to do to her - I would be hard pressed not to pay the little bastards a visit.

They definitely have a civil case for slander/libel (whichever one is written - I can never remember). But I don't think there is a criminal case here...it's disgusting, but it didn't break any laws.

I can't see how you can argue that this list is not sexual harassment and as such is against school policy. Those who had the list and were commenting on it at school should be subject to discipline. Those who made the list but did not distribute it, bring it, or talk about it at school (if this is true) should not be subject to discipline by the school; however, it certainly sounds like there may be grounds for a civil suit.

Dola, and I imagine variations of this occur at every school in the country. I know it occurred back when I was in high school (over a decade ago) and the lists were made by both sexes. Although this one sounds more graphic than any I saw.

This is a perfect example of parents not teaching their kids class and respect for others at an early age.

I think that is a big part of it...we've all done this, at least mentally. I'm guessing we are around the same age, I think difference now is, we didn't have the access to computers, etc that these kids do now. Otherwise, these prior versions might have been published too.

I can't help but think...what if a girl wanted to bring charges for NOT being on the list? Isn't that, implicitly, commenting on her looks, but not considering her one of the top 25?

I can see similarities between that list and the Hot or Not polls. I can also see the differences.

That is so awesome!

We pretty much did the same in high school, but we just talked about the chicks, never published anything. I wish I had thought of doing that though...and I had kind of a reputation that would suggest I never would have done something like that, so I so totally would have gotten away with it too (just like I got away with everything else I did in high school. *evil laugh*).

That is scary...I was just about to post that, since a Hot or Not was the top thread when I looked.

Interesting concept. To prove libel, you have to show that what was written is, in fact, not true.

What if the statements are something along the lines of "you could bounce a quarter off that tight tush" or "she's only got little skeeter bites up there." The evidenciary battles would be amusing.

I don't see the criminal side of this at all. But I do see how these kids (I'd imagine it's the senior boys) should get suspended

I was with a bunch of guys who decided to make up a story about one of the hot girls at our school. Basically that she had gone off on "senior ditch day" and got knocked up by some black guy she met on the beach. It was one of those things where we were sitting around talking and laughing about it, and then I remember being shocked when I heard it the very next day at school. It was during graduation week. I learned later that the story apparently had a big impact on her at the time. I regretted actually not doing more to quash the story when people brought it to me.

She was pretty smoking hot though she ended up breaking up the marriage of a famous NFLer.

Outstanding timing I'd say. (and a pretty relevant post, good job Samdari)

And, to avoid an unneeded dola:
Here's a thought for the upset parents: if you don't want your daughters sexual abilities to be a topic of discussion, maybe try doing a little more to prevent them from displaying their skills/lack thereof for critique.

The girls will still be rated on their physical appearance, and their sexual abilities will be made up. Boys this age don't need actual facts when they make up the surveys/ratings.

I know lawyers are paid to do whatever they need to do for their clients, but that "truth is a defense" quote from the lawyer in the second article is one of the coldest things I've ever seen. He's basically saying "if you sue, I'm going to make you sit there in court and watch me call witnesses who'll testify about what your daughter does under the bleachers".

Cold or not, it's a very correct tactic here. The object for the defense, presumably, would be to take all the air out of the litigation balloon before it ever takes off. And that's a pretty sharp pin he's wielding IMO.

There's an appropriate time and place for everything.. Just because you "rate" someone by in appearance in some circumstances doesn't mean it's appropriate across the board. Some of the legal claims here are pretty overblown, but this was clearly in very poor taste.

Amazingly overblown. From the article, it sounds as if the kids don't really care too much about it. Stuff like this has been going on for decades. As for a civil suit, please. You'd have to prove damages, causation, etc. Moreover, it has to be statement of fact, not opinion, that is false. This is a bunch of parents with their panties in a bunch. And yes, I even have a daughter of my own. I would take my daughter aside and tell her, these guys are asshats and ignore them. And most of all, get all your friends together and make sure they never get any -- preferably by tricking them into dropping trou' behind the stage curtain and the lifting it up so everyone can laugh at them.

So is the list available anywhere? The Unibomber gets his manifesto published because it is "news." And we have to see pictures of guys being tortured in Iraq because it is "news."

But I can't learn about the sexual habits of Top-25 teenagers in Pennsylvania? That sure seems like news to me. How do they expect me to make an informed decision about this matter without seeing the list?

You might open yourself up to liability...these parents might think you are also forming an opinion about there innocent daughters.

Part of the issue might be...Mt. Lebonan is strictly upper middle-class / low end "elite" class neighborhood. Had this happened in a city district, nobody would care.

I don't see the problem here. These are the top 25 girls at a school, so obviously it's overall complementary in nature. So it says someone gives good head. So what? Isn't that a good thing? So it says someone has small breasts. Shouldn't they already know that by looking in the mirror every day? So it says someone is a slut. So what, sluts in high school were some of the most popular girls!

It's not like this was the "top 25 fattest chicks" list. I remember when I was in school, I took a couple girls that I was thinking of asking out and rated each on different physical attributes and personality to come up with an overall (probably foreshadowing my love of text sims). I never made it public, but if someone found it I'd hate to think that I could be charged with libel for it.

The only problem I see here is that now all the adults know which girls are headed for the pole. Being on a list doesn't make you a slut, sucking a lot of cock does.

In addition to JIMG's comments, I think it is colder to sue over a rankings list, trying to force the makers to fork over money and have 'sexual harrasment' on their record for simply making a ranking list which was NOT sent to each girl's house. I know sexual harrasment is a problem, but my standards for it are far higher than this.

I think it's a ridiculous issue and lawsuit. And I think the girls lose in the end. You'd have to prove it was false. If it was a rumor that was going around (and not something the writers made up), how can you really say they were libeling her?

Agreed- of course this is because it's a list of girls and not guys.

The only problem I see here is that now all the adults know which girls are headed for the pole. Being on a list doesn't make you a slut, sucking a lot of cock does.

just myspace search Mt. Lebanon HS for females with pics man!
