What Is Your Favorite Musical Genre?

I want to break this down FOFC style......I have gone through radical changes in the type of music I loved/spent money on, and I'm curious to see what all of you consider yourselves loyal to. I am also interested in age groups relative to the kinds of music most listened to (Don't worry, I'm not some soulless marketing major attempting to map demographics for fiscal reasons) I've seen many vague polls on many subjects, so I will try to clarify the question as best I can.

Which genre of music do you listen to most at this point in your life, and would be most likely to make a purchase of, if the only information divulged was the genre?

Also, if after you vote, you could compose a brief summary of your musical listening history, along with reasons as to why you listen to the music you listen to, would be awesome.

It used to be R&B, but these days it's J-pop and K-pop that gets the heaviest rotation out of genres on my list.

I shudder at the pairings, but I'll go with Alternative/Indie/Emo. Probably 6-7 of my top 10 favorite bands most people have never heard of.

I only recently (around 3 or 4 months ago) started getting into Reggae and Ska (Jamacian Ska, not Brit Ska which I already had a decent grounding in with Madness, The Specials etc. who are excellent too). Before it had always been swilling around my conciousness but never actually a part of it, but then I decided to acually start seeking some out. Marley is, of course, an absolutle legend but Scratch Perry is really awesome too. Desmond Dekker (who I'd heard ofbefore but never heard before), Baba Brooks and Don Drummond round out some of the guys I've listened to and really enjoyed. Anyone else you could reccommend?

I used to be a huge Indie/Punk/New Wave guy, listening almost exclusively to what I like to call 'white-boy-guitar-rock' from 1977-present (excluding The Beatles and Velvet Underground, who are basically the same anyway, just pre-'77). But for some reason about a year ago my listening tastes have just exploded. Now I listen to Jazz, Hip-Hop, Soul, Funk, Reggae/Ska, House, Breakbeat, everything I can find really, heck even Adult Contemporary . I guess the only thing I don't listen to is Heavy Metal, which I still just don't find attractive at all. I'm not sure exactly why such a broadening happened, but I'm really glad it did as I kind of forgot just how awesome it can be just listening to music rather than consuming it. I think that some people I know and especially some I've seen on the internet can't grasp the difference, which is a shame.

At this point in my life, I'd say it's a tie between metal (all kinds) and singer/songwriter pop. I used to listen to only hard rock with melodies, but now I've essentially split that into two extremes for the most part.

I am more of a mix between the punk, alternative, rock group but I listen to it all. By the time I leave the house and make it to lets say the mall I could have listened to some blink, sean paul, kenny chesney, metallica, and finish the ride with some deftones.

I like many types of music, but right now my favorite is probably Latin music.

I'll take Mozart, Beethoven, and Chopin over any of the losers making "music" today.

Needless to say I like classical/orchestral

Classic Rock, followed by Country. Though I don't mind some Metal now and again (depending on what is considered metal, I guess...ie, is Marilyn Manson metal or not?).

I voted Alt/Indie/Emo because it is what I listen to more right now, but I will listen to anything, and actually have a ton of Classic Rock in my collection.

I grew up listening to rap music so that constitutes the majority of my collection. R&B is a close second when I need a change of pace.

I voted trout because I don't really have a number 1. I like bits of many (used to say all, but that's not true anymore. There is some stuff I just can't listen to anymore).

I grew up listening to all kinds of Mexican music... ranchero and contemporary, among others; but during high school (late 80's, early 90's) I listened to Hip Hop and Heavy Metal. From then until now, I've been listening to mostly heavy metal.

Since coming back from L.A., I have been introduced to Reguetón and am enjoying it; but RIGHT NOW, I'd say heavy metal.

Reguetón is raggae with a hip hop sort of influence.

None of my favorite categories are on the list (maybe it should've been done by cthomer or Ksyrup?).

Folk/Rock (late 60s/early-mid 70s)
Progressive/Symphonic Rock (early-mid 70s and into 80s a little)
Nature/Environmental (90s to present)
Christian Rock (late 80s/early 90s)

KROQ used to be my favorite radio station for years, but the longer I'm away from LA, the more crap that seems to infest their radio station.

I'd probably rather listen to KNAC nowadays....if it still existed.

Allthough I listen to all types of music, I find that most of my collection has a lot of R&B (lot more old school than the new stuff).
