Marcus Vick Arrested and Dismissed

Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick was arrested on December 17th of 2005 on two driving violations, including driving while is license was suspended. Vick was stopped in Hampton Roads, Virgina according to the Washington Post originally for speeding and when his license was run, the driving while suspended charged was added.

In what will be seen by some as an attempt to cover up his alleged actions, the State of Virginia did not post the citation on it's website until today. Vick was cited for going 38 in a 25 mile per hour speed limit zone according to the charge filed online by the Hampton Police Department.

This is not Vick's first brush with the law. The embattled quarterback plead no contest to possession of marijuana last July and to giving alcohol to an underage girl in September 2004. Vick also is facing disciplinary actions from Virginia Tech in a stomping incident during the Gator Bowl Monday in Jacksonville. Vick stomped on the leg of All-American linebacker Elvis Dumervil in the Hokies win.

The school was set to call a press conference tomorrow morning to announce what actions they would take against the junior, who could conceivably come out for the NFL Draft this April. It is believed that Vick is under a no tolerance policy from the school for his past alleged transgressions.

He faces a January 17th court date for the December driving charges.

So the behavior in the bowl game came even though he knew about this incident. All with a supposed "zero tolerance" policy in place.

Bright guy.

Cut him now. I think that he brings more negative to the program than positive now. (Although I suppose there is the matter of wanting to stay in his brother's good graces in terms of recuiting, etc. It would probably hurt the program if their most famous football alum started holding a public grudge against them.)

If you want to be the starting quarterback for Virginia Tech, you understand that people are going to watch you a little bit more closely.

It's possible this could be the wake up call he needs, and he finally grows up a little bit. Me, personally, I think it's more likely he ends up in jail than in a Pro Bowl.

The girls accused him of making them strip and taking pictures of them. Charges were never brought on that. He was charged with having sex with the 15 year old girl, but was acquitted.

Something I'm not clear on. Did the University know of this before today or did they let him play in the Gator knowing this?

Actually he confessed to a police officer to having sex with the 15 year old girl, but he was not charged.

Vick, the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, initially was charged with four counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The fourth count stemmed from the allegation that he had sex with one of the 15-year-olds. A lower-court judge dismissed the charge even though a police officer testified that Vick admitted having sexual intercourse with the girl.

HOLY CRAP I JUST SAW WHAT HE DID IN THE BOWL GAME!

Stepping on that guy's calf like that. Accident my arse.
That is HORRENDOUS. I'd kick him out or at least suspend him for a season just for pulling that kind of crap.

Agreed, he is a 21 year old college kid, and college kids make mistakes. But wow. He's made a lot of them. Usually kids learn after once or at most twice in hot water.

Between the underage drinking/sex thing, the driving thing, the WVU thing, the bowl thing...I think it's demonstrated he isn't going to learn/grow up.

And what he did to that Louisville player in the bowl game...WOW. And OW.

Here's the ESPN story. It sounds like VT did know about his arrest before the Gator Bowl.
Edit to say that I misread the article and it is still unclear whether or not they knew about his arrest. I assume they didn't.

Personally, even if VT did know about the arrest and still let him play, I don't have as big a problem with that, as I did with the kid from BC playing in his bowl game. Vick drove with a suspended license..bad, yes, but not a terrible crime. The kid from BC got arrested for DUI after he drove up a curb and into a wall, failed a sobriety test, didn't tell his coaches about it, missed his court appearance to go to the bowl game, finally told his coaches who then got the hearing postponed, was informed by his coaches that he would be held out of the game, and then ENDED UP PLAYING IN THE GAME ANYWAY!!! That's a hell of a lesson...fuck up about 10 times in one situation, and still get to play. I can't believe a bigger deal wasn't made of this.

P.S. Vick is an asshole and deserves everything he gets.

This guy is a fucking idiot. He could've had the NFL in the palm of his hand (see Eli Manning for well-known brother and family connection), but he acts like this.

I hate the Mannings, but you know what? They're under the same microscope; other than a drunk pic of Eli with Shorty they haven't done anything to embarass themselves (other than that whole "I'm bigger than the NFL and won't play for San Diego thing").

I, for one, am glad he's gone and will much ratehr see my Hokies go 8-4 next year with Glennon or Holt under center than have MV2 and his cloud of doom lead VT to another 10/11 win season. Sad to say, but going to Virginia Tech may have been his biggest mistake. No way he could have ever lived up to the hype (thanks, ESPN) and he simply couldn't cope - or if you believe some, he coped like any college kid would, he just unfortunately had the media watching his every move.

I hope he gets his life together and has a long career as a Saskatchewan Rough Rider.

Perhaps VT and BC are just trying to live up to the part, now that they have joined a southern conference?

Agreed. OTOH, Grant Noel won quitea few games following Mike, and Bryan Randall did quite well last year - ACC Champ and a BCS bowl. I don't think it was "Michael Vick" hype so much as it was "Your Big Brother" hype that did him in.

I figure he'll be a first-day pick. He doesn't seem to be nearly as troubled as Clarett was and you have to figure that he's just young and stupid, but his brother is a millionaire and so, he doesn't have to rob anyone for a cell phone.

He'll be okay, even if he is dumb...I think he'll at least learn a lesson from all of this mess. It's not like he's the first athlete to screw up.

Are you kidding? He seems WAY more troubled than Clarett did at draft time last year. Clarett just seemed somewhat bitter, and the recipient of bad legal advice. Vick seems like a narcissistic creep.

That's a joke, Clarett just got tied up in bad school practices that have went on for years, and he just happened to get caught. (post NFL career robbery aside)

Vick has just went nuts, doing whatever he feels like including breaking the law multiple times.
