Anyone planning on watching the series premier Friday night?


I'll be watching, I enjoyed the miniseries.

A friend of mine ran into Richard Hatch and was talking with him about the original show. He then proceded to rip on the new show, where Hatch awkwardly informed him he has a role on it.

I still have no interest in watching it. I have the original DVD set. I'd rather watch Galactica 1980...

Heard very good things about the miniseries. I'll probably give it a try. Hopefully it will help me get over the fact the Firefly is dead.

I'll give it a shot. The miniseries was better than I expected. I was a huge fan of the original series -- I have the DVD set as well. I think the concept is different enough that you don't find yourself comparing the two that much. The miniseries had some weaknesses (the "Apollo" replacement character Lee was a horrible actor) and the dialogue was a waste of the talents of Olmos and McDonnell. Of course, you could say the same about Lorne Greene.

On the bright side, Starbuck is a hottie in a tom-girl sort of way and the female cylon has got something going on.

I will be watching. My step daughter went to the movies yesterday and they gave her a free dvd of the mini-series Sci-Fi had. I enjoyed it and hope they can do some more of the same(ie better than Stargate).

The "new miniseries" dvd is on sale for $15-$25.

The dvd my step daughter got has promotional stamped on it but it is the legit miniseries. One of the theater employees said they have been given out the past week and will be given out this week to promote the new series.

Been watching it for a few months now (its been on Sky in the UK for a while) .... it rocks, think of a grown up version of BSG, similar to the difference between Next Gen Star Trek and the original ....

The first two episodes especially are amazing imho

I was a HUGE fan of the original series....i have the box set and it is almost worn out.I gave the new one a try thinking there was no way i'd like it....but it was great.

As another UK resident, I can confirm that it is indeed very very good. Highly recomended viewing for any sci-fi fan.

I caught part 1 of 2 of the miniseries last night. I thought it was very good, especially for TV. Some weak spots, but overall it was fun to watch. I'm looking forward to part 2 tonight.

The dialogue in the miniseries is awful, but I really like the camera work in the battle scenes. Very documentary style, and unique.

That's basically what I thought too. I have a soft spot for the show since I loved it growing up. I always loved the exterior ship scenes. The acting, well, it is a Sci-Fi miniseries.

No - the premise of the show and the main characters are the same, but the plots and scripts are all new (to the best of my knowledge).

i really like the original when they found los angeles and did the episodes there

One of the characters is now a girl instead of a guy. Thats about the only major character difference I have heard people talk about. I never watched the original so it didnt affect me.

More than one, actually. Starbuck and Boomer are now girls. Actually, Boomer has other skeletons in the closet.

Actually, they've done a number of changes to the series. The essential underlying world is similar (12 colonies, humans vs. cylons, Galactica, a lot of the characters), but the chrome is a lot different (much more "Earth-like" civilization that seems like it's only somewhat in advance of our world, aside from space flight capabilities, a civilian governing presence that tussles with the military, some cylons are human infiltrators like Terminators, "Apollo" and "Starbuck" are not actual names, but callsigns, Baltar is not a true villain but is being manipulated by the Cylons, etc).

I think I read somewhere that they were going to spend a few episodes actually back on Caprica following survivors who didn't get to evacuate. Sounds like a grisly notion, especially if the Cylons come and start setting up extermination camps for those who survived the attacks.

I wouldn't be suprised since they left that guy behind in the first leg of the miniseries. I'd hope for more space battles and less standing around and looking serious or contemplative though.

One plot point I found hilarious is that there are only 12 human looking cylon models. I guess they ran a little short on the special effects budget.

I'll be watching, but interestingly enough its up against some real science as the Science channel has the landing of the probe on Saturn's moon Titan live at the same time. The Sci-Fi channel also seems to be running some Battlestar 1980 marathon during the day tomorrow.

Dear god don't watch battlestar 1980, I don't think I've ever watched a more hideously aweful TV show....

I must say I LOVE the new series/miniseries. it adds a harsh reality-vision to what was originally an amazing storyline. The characters, while very rough right now, look to be easily fleshed out as the show grows. Like any new series it will take a few episodes to develop them into really lovable characters.

Can I get a #6 to go please? *druuuulllzzz*

I watched the miniseries last night. I liked it, but perhaps my hopes were a bit high, because I didn't enjoy it as much as those who told me about it. I should have gone in with zero expectations, then I probably would have loved it.

I'll be watching the premiere on Friday though. It is apparently fantastic!! Damnit there I go again.

Oh and Sachmo. I do admit when I bought my latest Trench coat, I went with brown to recognize the demise of the series.

It does seem to lend itself to limitations, doesn't it? I think the humans only figure out two of the models in the miniseries (the one trapped with Adama inside the base and the one Baltar picked out). That leaves ten more, though I think we have only seen a couple others (Boomer and Number Six), which leaves eight more for the audience to uncover. Plus, I would assume the Cylons would produce new models at some point if they start running out of infiltrators that can hide their identity.

Is Boomer the Asian pilot chick? For some reason I see that one getting drawn out a seriously, and painfully, long time. Like possibly until the last episode. It just has that vibe.

I think the idea is simply to prevent it becoming a human vs 'looking human' war which would mean the audience might stop seeing the bad guys as being so 'bad' ...

There have been some nice DS-9 style philosophy and thought-provoking stuff in it so far

The Cylons were using the infiltrators to carry out specific missions. They expected to kill all of the humans, so why would they need more?

I enjoyed the mini-series greatly and saw the 2 episodes last night and I really like the show. I would have much preferred that sci-fi pick up firefly, but this isn't a bad substitute at all. Very well done.

I've seen a few episodes of the old series and can confirm your suspicions. Better to hold on to those childhood memories than have them shattered by revisiting the old series.

They were pretty good, though I'm still a bit puzzled by the determination of Number Six to force Baltar to "repent" for his sin of not believing in God. Not entirely sure what it all meant and whether it was commentary on contemporary religion or anything. Also, anyone notice that she always used God in the singular while all the humans referenced God in plural (Gods, Lords of Kobol, etc)?

Umm maybe because they wouldn't get everyone all at once and once a model is seen, it then becomes useless?

I think it is, they don't seem to try to hide it. I seem to remember those ideas were part of the original too. It sounds like pagans and atheists (humans) vs. the true children of God (cylons).

No actually, Galactica 1980 was a few years later, after the original had died a swift and horrible death. !980 was just awful and honestly should be burned and its ashed used as a sacrifice to the Sci-Fi gods. Its embarrassing to think about, let alone admit that I ever watched it.

The original series only ran about 1.5 seasons and started off with a storyline that the new mini-series used as a blue print to start from. From here, who knows where they will go with it though, as the new series is not following the old one as far as the storyline goes beyond the basic, anihilation and refugee running away plot.
