K-State v Fresno State
Since the Kansas-Toledo game isn't until tonight, I decided to check out the Purple Power Pussies to the west on Fox Sports Net. It's 31-14 Fresno State right now. Just some observations:
* Fresno State has some scary good athletes. Their offensive line is just pushing around the K-State defensive line. Wow! * The Fresno State return guy, Jennings, I think, is just awesome. He has already had 2 or 3 great returns and a TD called back for an illegal block. * Darren Sproles just hasn't looked the same this year as last year. Helped having the weapons in front of him, I guess. Well, I suppose the more accurate statement is "with just a rummy QB in front of him, it's tough to carry the entire load". * That Fresno State QB on the other hand is one of those "does just enough to not lose you the game" guys and with a good running back in the backfield and that offensive line, it works for them. * Along with pretty much all of the crowd, I thought the rout was on as soon as K-State intercepted on the first drive for a TD. * This game started out with a lot of biased calls towards K-State but it's started to even out. * This Fresno State team looks like it could be in a major conference and finish pretty well. They don't have the athletes to be, say, Miami but only a couple of programs in the country can do that. But they could finish in the middle of the Big 12 or Big 10 or SEC, to be sure. SI

This game is far from over. It seems like one of those games where one team completely underestimated the other team so we'll see how the second half goes. That said, they're playing K-State so of course I'm rooting for them ![]() SI

K-State driving and... PICK BY FRESNO STATE AT THE 2!
They dodged a bullet there because they were playing a prevent defense and K-State was knifing through them. SI

I am cautiously optimistic about this bulldog team. The O-Line is very good. We have had some of these guys for some time, but injuries have kept them out of the lineup as a unit. The Defensive Backs are fantastic, and still pretty young. The questions for me are the offense in general, and somewhat the Defensive line. They are stopping Sproles right now, but to do so they are really filling up the box on K-State. Pinegar, the QB, is pretty much as you described. He plays within himself, and is very experienced. He was pressed into starting as a Freshman two years ago, and has done well. Oh and before anybody starts spouting about all the Prop 48s on FSU's team. There are only 4, and the program no longer accepts prop 48s.

This I agree on. Well except for the rooting for Kstate. There is a lot of football left to be played, and I expect K-State to open it up a bit to try and get Fresno to drop back in coverage a little. Then again that plays right into an FSU strength...Defensive Backs that are fast and have the reputation of picking balls off. I missed the first quarter, getting signed up for Fox-Sports Net. I thought the game was going to be on ESPN2. Go-Dogs!!!

Allright then we are on the same page then. Go Dogs!!! That was a hell of an Interception by K-State on their goal line. To bad they gave it up three plays later. 38-14 Fresno State

Go Fresno State!
I love them for the fact that they schedule the tough teams. They play ranked teams in their out of conference. It's one of the reasons I root for them whenever they are on.

45-21 Final.
FSU lost their RB though in what should have been mop-up time in the middle of the fourth quarter. I don't think the backup is a big step down from Wright. But Wright is a returning 1000 yard rusher, and can catch the ball out of the backfield, so he will certainly be missed.

Last year, Marshall. This year, Fresno State.
Bill Snyder needs to go back to scheduling Division I-AA cupcakes for his non-conference games. |

Fresno State and Pat Hill make me so proud because of their "anywhere, anytime" philosophy. even when they got thumped at Oklahoma and at Tennessee. Over the last few years we have beat Kansas State, Washington, Wisconsin, and Colorado (all on the road). Not too shabby.
Fresno State always has some top notch athletes on their team. They just do not have the depth and the man for man talent that most BCS conference teams have. They do have good coaching, though. After Boise State smacked around Oregon State (played them much tougher than LSU I might add), the Fresno State v. Boise State. matchup might just end up having ***ahem*** national implications. As long as neither screws up and loses going in. |

The Boise State and Hawaii games continue to loom large. The last time Fresno started the season with national aspirations, they ended up losing to both of those teams. It sucks to beat ranked teams, and then fail to even win your own conference.

Fresno State is able to recruit those that the Big 4 in California are unable to admit. It helps them out, but I'd wish Pat Hill wouldn't talk

Not the case. Fresno State is no longer allowing prop 48s. There are only 4 prop 48s on the football team. Pat Hill is simply an amazing head coach. When he does finally get lured away from here, he is going to kick ass and take names no matter where he goes.

For those ignorant among us, what are prop 48's?

I think if it's the same as basketball it's those who don't have the grades or test scores to qualify to play at a big university, or something of that ilk.
