Sopranos= Best....Show.....Ever
I know that it's all in personal taste and opinions are subjective but holy crap is this season blowing just about anything ever made for Television out of the water.

Interesting... lots of critics and reviewers would say that this season has been the weakest yet. I though tonight's episode was the first "good" one of the last four. But, even a weak Sopranos is worth setting the time aside to watch.

I was just thinking that this season of the Sopranos and Deadwood is some of the best television I've seen in a long time.

I watched The Sopranos once. Hated it. Oh well.

I think as far as character (instead of caricture) driven episodes and storytelling this been the best season ever. It could be because it's so far along in the story but it just feels like theyre really pushing it into high gear for the last 20-25 episodes.

I saw two episodes during the first season, and I can't say I hated it, but I've never seen another episode. Of course, I think it probably has more to do with the subject matter than the quality of the show. I can't stand the mafia movie genre. I've never even seen the Godfather movies or Goodfellas, and don't care if I ever do.

Just out of curiousity...why? I know some are against the "stereotyping" of Italian-Americans and all. Is that your reason? |

No, not at all. I'm all for stereotyping.
I've just never been interested in it. Even remotely. I'm not a huge fan of gratuitous violence, either, so that probably has something to do with it. Those people and that lifestyle are so far away from what I know that it's like watching sci-fi...and I HATE sci-fi.

I'm the same (almost). Bought the first season on dvd as I'd heard all the great reviews, a few people I knew raved about it. Watched the first two episodes and haven't felt the urge to go on further. It's just gathering dust now, I'll watch episode 3 eventually probably. The almost bit is because I do like the genre, I'd rank Godfather I and II as two of my favorite movies, just don't like The Sopranos. |

Growing up, I was never a big fan of the mafia. Quite frankly, I'm not sure why America has a love affair with the whole concept, but that's probably a discussion for some other time.
Anyway, Ksyrup - if you don't like the mafia, check out the "Untouchables" - it's kind of an anti-Godfather and a great movie. -Craig P.S. Re-reading my post - my first statement is downright laughable, isn't it? |

I loved last night's episode, but I have to agree with some critics, I thought this season was pretty weak compared to the rest...sometimes it seems all over the place! But I think things are back on track!

I think The Shield is the best thing on TV right now and the beauty is that it is on regular cable and not HBblOw.

Just my opinion but I think this is the worst season of Sopranos they have ever made. Also, I think the past 3-4 episodes have been almost unwatchable. The episode with Tony and the old bag who used to bang Tony's father was one of the Worst shows I ever watched and almost even turned it off. The show from last night was better then the past 3, I hope next week wil be better.

Funny.. I don't watch the Sopranos like my wife does every week, but I did this week and thought it was great. In fact, I'm a little tired today because I stayed up to watch it all, wondering if Meadow's boyfriend was going to get it from that guy who wanted him to go to the Yankees game.

Ksyrup, maybe the reason that you don't like the mafia genre is because you haven't watched Godfather I or II or Goodfellas. They do however contain the gratuitous violence that you are not interested in.

I doubt it. These types of storylines simply don't interest me. I'm not really sure how to explain it.

Goodfellas is strictly a mafia flick but the godfather is really not a mafia flick. It's a movie about family and family relationships that happens to have a mafia family involved. It may seem like a nitpicky distinction but it's a valid one. The relationship between the brothers, especially the one who left and then came back and how they all related to the father would play well in any scenario not just a mafia one IMHO.

I thought the best Sopranos were years one and two, then it got week in three, and was downright dull last year. I think this year has picked back up. Not as good as the first two years, but much better than the last two. Gotta admit, the fat guy and the security guard dropped my jaw.

Ya...Goodfellas is pure mob stuff.....but if you like great acting by great actors.....and an amazing story.....you would like Goodfellas....the 3 godfathers is a family going through ups and downs....they just happen to be one of the 5 families.....Sopranos is about family.....relationships.....the star just happens to be a mob boss......and I love alll of these.....

Donnie Brasco is another good mob movie. Pacino was excellent in that. I really liked that movie first, then I read the book and realized the movie was just loosely based on the book, but still a good movie. Really good book that focuses more on the undercover FBI agent who was Donnie Brasco, but still lots of good mafia insight. I see a lot of things in the Sopranos stolen out of the Donnie Brasco book.
