The FFC and sports?
Just wondering here as I watch boxing on CN8 (local cable channel) and I heard the "f word" said in between the rounds from one of the corner men, will the FCC start going after networks and sports organizations if a swear word is shown on TV?
I know with the boxing I'm watching now, it doesn't matter since it's cable. But several times through the year of watching football, you'll hear a "motherfucker" or a "shit" being said. (And even coaches, you can watch their mouths and know what they are saying...lip readings "hear" that.) Not sure if this discussion has been had before (probably), but now with the FCC on the warpath, do you think they'll go after FOX, CBS, NBC (MNF) and the NFL once football season starts and the occasional swear gets broadcasted? |

The coach for the Grand Forks Central Knights Hockey team is a lawyer for the car dealership I work for and I have gotten to know he pretty good as we both have a similiar sense of humor and love of sports. Anywho, they were in the State Title game which was broadcasted live and I was watching it, they were down 1-0 in the third period where the ref made a call and came to the benches to explain it, and as clear as can it can be, he was heard saying "It is about fucking time, that shit has been happening all night. I am just saying he has been fucking us all night." The announce then says, "As many of you can tell, we have the Knights Head Coach miked up and he has a large sense of relief that this call was finally made."
He is a potty mouth. ![]()

I know NASCAR is coming down hard on drivers who swear because they are worried about their TV partners being fined.

I'd say it's no worse than an even money bet, maybe slightly weighted toward "yes". At least, that's my answer as long as you're talking about some of the "magic words", not just the random "damn", "hell", etc. which don't seem to have any part in the recent trend toward enforcement. |

I would guess that we will see something similar to the Oscars where there is a 5-10 second delay between what is actually happening and what is broadcast so that they are ready to cut out any offensive words.
