UPS Tracking

How reliable is UPS tracking? I am supposed to be getting a package today that is supposed to be delivered by 5 PM. It's not listed as being delivered yet, even though it was placed on the truck at 8:30 this morning.

Extremely reliable.

(My software creates tens of thousands of UPS Tracking numbers per day)

Its pretty reliable.

They can be a bit late on updating the "delivered to the house" time though. The information needs to get from the trucks to the ccomputers. Not sure how that transition happens.

I'm pretty confident it's uploaded from the devices the delivery people use once they're back at their base location.

Only with older equipment. We've rolled out a number of wireless handhelds that upload scans instantaneously.

How many drivers/hubs have these? It was the delay between delivery and upload that I was referring to above (and have seen before).

Pretty much everywhere by the end of the year (for the wireless stuff).

UPS has an interesting system where they give incentive to get done quickly. The drivers are scheduled for 8 or 9 hours and if they get done in 6, they get paid for 9 anyways. That's why you see the brown man streak away after he delivers to you. Only reason I know this is I have worked at a hub for the holiday season for the last 6 years.

I've found their info to be pretty reliable in terms of time, etc (now whether they get the package to its intended destination, that's a whole other matter entirely).
