My Nissan Is Messed Up!!

So tonight, I am with my family at IHOP having the all american traditional breakfast for dinner =)

Well, as I am leaving the parking lot, the weather here (Snow, and lots of it) was covering the end of a median. I pulled out, drove over the median. Well, underneath the snow was a metal shard of what was left of a sign post that was previously there, so obviously, I wasn't the first one to do this.

Well, anyone, I was doing about 5 MPH, and my FREAKING AIR BAGS deployed. Caught me in the damn face, totally by surprise. WOW Airbags hurt.

Needless to say, the force of the airbags popping shattered my window as well. Also, that little metal shard, tore up my transmission.

I am pissed. There is no way in hell my air bags should have deployed, the sensors weren't hit, no pole or anything else was hit.

I look like I have gone twelve rounds with Lennox Lewis, My head is killing me and I am now down to one car, which isn't a family car.

BAH!!!!!!!!!!!! On this night!

Im ok, Where the airbag caught me on the jaw, it looks like someone punched me. The rest of the family is ok.

As for the Airbags going off going over the median (Which was really low, it was like driving over a small curb) I read last night that it was a problem issue with Nissan, and I will be having a lawyer contact Nissan on Monday.

As for the car, it will be totalled, the damage vs value of the car, will be high.

Anyways, again, I am really pissed at Nissan, I laugh about the situation, but am upset I am without a family car right now.

I looked through the literature I have available and couldn't find anything about problems with airbags on those specific models. 1996 Sentra Recall Info

Reading through the limited information you gave about the accident, I think you will have trouble recovering anything from Nissan because 1.) you drove over a median (if I understand correctly, I am picturing a raised median and not just lines in the road) that you probably should not have and 2.) you will have a tough time proving that you were going 5 MPH, rather than 10 or 15 (or whatever the airbag is rated to go off at).

dude, what were you doing eating at IHOP when your city has that Tirimisu flavored ice cream!?!? Anywho... Another reason to have one of those gas guzzlin' road hog SUVS I guess... you would have been up a bit higher and probably just would have dismissed the median as being a minor speed bump.

I got so steamed a couple of weeks ago about something like that. I was driving home at about 11pm and had to stop at a stoplight on my street. While I was waiting at the light, I saw a dude in an H2 pull out of the gas station that he had just visited. Well, the street we were on in three lanes in both directions, and it has a raised median in the middle. This dude apparently needed to turn left out of the gas station, but he decided that he didn't want to drive the twenty feet to the stoplight and pull a u-turn. So this asshole proceeded to to drive over the median instead. So damn lazy. So damn illegal. And it got me so pissed off..

The air bag issue isn't a recall yet, cause it hasn't happened enough, and it isn't model specific, it's Nissans in general.

Actually, I am not hoping to get anything from Nissan, if I can get them to come out, and review the vehicle and see what caused it to go off, maybe it can save some lives, or trauma like me and family experienced.

I'm not a sue happy person, you would have to talk me into it in order to do something that drastic, I am one that truly believes in Karma and such.

Anyways, thanks for the support, I appreciate it guys.
