Exclamation OT: A message from your local fireman

I started this last year, so here is your yearly reminder.

Check those smoke detectors! If you are going to relatives this weekend, take 2 minutes and have them check theirs. If you have elderly relatives, go to their house and check them, or if they live quite a distance away call their local fire department. Most departments will come by and install the detectors and it is all free including the detector.

Seriously, you would be surprised what a couple of AA batteries can save.

Yup, it's still there. Nothing to worry about.

I doubt that. Life and possessions, check. But to surprise me I'd have to have an alarm go off and suddenly discover a water buffalo in my living room. Or Mary Lou Retton.

I just wish they could invent a smoke detector that actually knew the difference between my kids setting fire to the carpet and my wife cooking dinner....

You mean there's a difference?
