Strategy

Couldn't find anything in the strategy section, but I'm looking for advice on playcalling in FOF4. Any advice at all! My teams do much, much better when I quicksim, and I don't know why.

What kind of gameplan do you normally follow?

Basically I try to play a balanced offense, although because of the salary structure I try to play a lot of two tight end sets, with a strong running game. In my last season, in the 6 games I playcalled, my star rb (82) averaged less than 3 ypc - after quicksimming the last 10 games, he finished 2nd in the league in yards, with just under 4 ypc.

Yet I would say alot of your success or failure depends on matching the makeup of your team(west coast, longball, 3 yards and a cloud of dust) to the correct gameplan/playcalling. Have you determined what type of offensive team you have?

Six games is not really much of a sample size. I would try playcalling a whole season and then replaying that season with a quicksim and comparing the results.

Is your gameplan tailored to how you call your games? Compare how many rushes your team gets when you playcall versus a quicksim. You may be relying to heavily on the run - may not be running around end enough...you really need more data to make a valid comparison.

That was just an example from my latest career ... I've had similiar results with every career I've tried, good teams, bad teams, teams with strong qbs or poor qbs. I call about 50/50 runs on 1st and 10, more if it's the second half and I've got a good lead. Basically, no matter the talent of my team, I haven't been able to get a good Rushing Offense, or Passing Defense while playcalling. I just want ideas from people who have had success at playcalling.

If you have such a good running back, you should be running more on 1st & 10, IMO. Even situations like 2nd & 10 you should run a fair amount.

Morgado studied, in detail, playcalling in FOF2 (which I'd guess is very similar to FOF4), and found that the run sets up the pass, and not the other way around.

What Kyle said.

Most of your evidence is kind of anecdotal, so it is hard to tell if you are running your backs as much as the computer would. I would recommend running on first down 70/30.

I selctively play call. I'll do 20-30% of the calls and it seems to work well for me. When it's a big play I make the call. I also make sure the game doesn't hose me by punting when I want to try a FG and vice versa. I've lost games where the AI punted late on a no brainer go for it situation. But for routine gameplay the AI does a decent job calling my plays.
